Can you help me 'design' a broom closet?
Comments (15)I hope this tape outline will make it eaiser to "see" what I'm trying to do. I so appreciate all the ideas and am considering all of them. ColorCrazy - the tables' manufacture (in the USA!) said the leaves must be stored flat. That was no problem in the old house. Here's it's been a major issue. CamLan - I'm making my first visit to an Ikea (in Minneapolis) this Saturday. It's a five-hour drive but I'm looking forward to it. Here's the south wall taped off to show the closet shelf placements and window seat area. The table is pulled out as though it's placed in front of the window seat. I have two small chairs to place at the table, too. The bookcase, of course, will go away; I've already begun emptying it....See MoreLandscape/border design help and critique needed
Comments (62)Or even try googling "big planters with shrubs" or "big planters with perennials." At least you could get some ideas of what look you like, then try to find plants that fit the bill. Nothing wrong with skip laurels, IMHO, if that's what you like. I'd try to find a plant that naturally stays the size I want without pruning. But I hate pruning. I love the magic carpet spirea for hedges, but not evergreen. But a lot of the season they have something interesting going on. I've also had good luck with dwarf varieties of arborvitae staying relatively small....See MoreStarting from scratch - please help me with new landscape design
Comments (20)I love red bud trees! I grew up in VA and they are everywhere, I am going to reconsider the small magnolia. Also, still thinking of a crape myrtle. I will not do the dogwood, because they would be stand alone in the sun. My goal is to update the front of our home. I want to add some type of blooming element. I am not likely to plant annuals. I am not a fan of water features, other than maintaining our pool in the back yard. My likes are everywhere - i have even looked at palm trees. I like a reliable boxwood too. Yardvaak - maybe I can get some more photos today. It looks like the rain has stopped! I appreciate the feedback, so very much....See MoreOvergrown gardens & landscaping
Comments (56)"You cannot legally do anything that would cause permanent harm to the tree". "Not so. You can cut ANYTHING overhanging your property." Check the law, It varies slightly by state but in virtually ALL cases, YOU (the neighbor) are liable if any attempts to control the tree or its spread results in its death or any serious permanent damage. "You have the legal right to trim tree branches up to the property line. But you may not go onto the neighbor's property or destroy the tree itself. In almost every state, a person who intentionally injures someone else's tree is liable to the owner for two or three times the amount of actual monetary loss. These penalties protect tree owners by providing harsh deterrents to would-be loggers." "For all the know it alls, your help was trumped by a pro." And once again we have a decidedly unpleasant comment from the OP :-( Since there is no way for her to know who is a landscape professional or not or exactly what their experience and skill set is, she is making some very erroneous assumptions. And her professional arborist is also taking her to the cleaners. An infrequent pruning job - canopy thinning or branch reduction/shortening - should not cost anywhere close to $1200. That is what is charged here for a full tree removal!...See MoreUser
