Looking for a red rose red hybrid tea
Comments (37)I looked at Kardinal on an image search and some of them look red, but some look pink and some look more orange. I think the camera, the culture, and the lighting conditions influence the photographs so it's hard to tell which is really true red. I used to have an American beauty growing up, I thought it was really red, but now I read it's on the pink side. It was not a hybrid tea, it was more like a big huge bush with red roses on it. It's probably good to go to rose shows and nursery to see them in person before selection a color that is the red that you want....See MoreOther Rose Companion Colors for Red Roses
Comments (6)Here's red with a little bit of everything around it: Here's red accompanied by white and a strong gold-yellow (I usually think the strong yellows work best with a bright red): Dusty Miller (annual) will beautifully downplay the bright red rose: Once more--just cuz its pretty: I really like whites next to my reds--provides a "cool" balance. Here is Gourmet Popcorn rose (planted next to the William Shakespeare 2000 you can't see in the pic): Here is white Hardy Garden Geranium growing at the feet of one of my red roses. I have the white Hardy Garden Geranium growing by a number of my red roses--gives a really airy, lacey effect to the garden--quite charming! Here's another Hardy White Garden Geranium floating around the feet of a red rose and a pink rose next to it. (I like this pic.) Here's pic my daughter took of climbing red Dublin Bay and a white climbing clematis mixed in with it. Light blue iris in the middle of my rose bed which has lots of red roses looks spectacular in the spring: As you can see, I like whites, silvers, and pale blues as cooling contrasts with my reds, and I like strong yellow-golds to compete with the hot reds. An occasional light pink rose in there gives some pleasing variety. Hope that gives you some ideas. Kate...See MoreBest Purple ?? Rose in the Purple Family??
Comments (23)HMF has Night Owl listed as deep wine red as well as mauve. Purple to anything with pink shading is okay, although purple to a lavender shading would be better. I am not sure about the red, as everything in the front yard is pink, lavender, white, or purple. Purple Skyliner appears to have the best color range but I am not sure how it will perform here. Wild Blue Yonder is possible too, but after re -evaluating the space, I think something with small flowers would look better. I am beginning to consider planting a small white climbing rose for the area because finding the right purple is tough, or I am just fried. Thank you for all of the input. Comments (23)Cori Ann, how wonderful to line up these lovelies for a little beauty pageant and some easy comparisons. I love them all, but only grow Young Lycidas. I'd go for Falstaff, but Munstead and The Prince will have to do for me and my lack of space. However, I'm nuts about Pretty Lady. I need a large bloomed HT with long stems for bouquet making. This is something I've neglected, and she would fill the bill, I think. And Polarnacht is so fabulous. It can certainly compete with the roses. Diane...See MoreUser
