Comments (15)I would be interested in knowing as well. I am in N E FL and I am surprised that chili thrips havent showed up here yet. They are rampant in S FL and we are getting into the 100F here in the summers now and having warmer winters without much frost so I know they are coming lol. One thing I've noticed that loves to eat the regular thrips is our native little green tree frogs. As soon as thrips show up in the spring, I will soon see the little frogs start hanging out in the flower blossoms gobbling up thrips. These frogs are endangered here in FL now due to invasion of the Cuban Tree frogs that gobble up the green tree frogs, native lizards etc. I wonder if these tree frogs could b used in other places like Calif to control thrips. They do a great job here. I had these frogs in our yard when I lived in Louisiana so hopefully the Cuban tree frogs arent going eat all them up in LA....See MoreHeritage Rose Foundation, "Rose Preservation" at The Huntington
Comments (38)Many years ago, we grew a rose called 'Etoile de Lyon'. I don't remember for sure where we got it, but I would have thought Joyce and Virginia. It was a pure, true yellow, definitely not the same as 'Bermuda's Anna Olivier'; but of course it may not have been a "real" EdL. Bermuda's Anna does seem to be the same as what is now generally known as EdL. I wish I knew what our old one was, and I wish I still had it -- it was an unusually nice, very large-flowered pure yellow Tea. As I recall, it did ball badly in some weather....See MoreHuntington's Rose Garden having a perfect moment
Comments (9)I'm just swamped with work and staying up late right now. I used my little time off to run over there and see what was happening. It's tricky because LA traffic is very bad and the Huntington is open 10-4. It takes me an hour with no traffic so I have to hurry down as soon as the worst is over and hurry back before it starts again. But it's completely worth it. Tom C. was there and he said he was happy with it. He's a modest man. I mean it couldn't be more perfect than it is right now. Everywhere you look is roses at the top of their game. They got lucky when he said he would take care of that garden. I can't believe how transformed it is. I was wondering too if it amazes him and he gets caught up in the spring excitement we all get looking at our roses. Or if he's looking at it with a critical eye evaluating the progress Or if he's thinking about some tv or magazine shoot that might be coming Or if he's making decisions for next year or thinking about Huntington related matters. I hope he's happy like a kid on Christmas enjoying it all. I used to feel like that at Disneyland. Working hard and enjoying the fun we made for others while being happy seeing them enjoy it all. He's so kind, talking to guests about roses. They don't realize they have a prince of roses in front of them. I couldn't take a fine garden and turn it into a masterpiece. The plants are the same plants but now after a few years completely transformed into Olympians. What an achievement by him and his group of great gardeners. Congratulations all!...See Morekittymoonbeam
