Nosoccermom, do you have pics of your new paint? I've been looking at Farrow and Ball Hague Blue longingly. I had planned to use it in the bedroom, but now I'm thinking LR.

It's a north facing room so I worry I'm creating a cave.

The mirror looks fine in the photos, but from those angles it's hard to tell for sure.

Thanks for your comments! The dark mockup is actually the same room, just the other side. I do worry about going too dark. Here's the whole room. It's small, so hard to photograph. The teak arm chair is getting new upholstery.

Wow, the after is a model of organization and sleekness!

From the photos I think the mirror's in a good spot -- look at what it reflects (currently, interesting vignettes). Going higher might just reflect...walls.

As for the dark blue I think your room could handle it, but agree that the entry might best be served by a light/bright shade. Whether that remains the current one or you do that too...well, keep us posted!

It looks wonderful! I think the mirror looks perfect, as is. I'd go for the dark paint in your main room and leave the entry lighter. I think it would be beautiful and, as they say, it's only paint. If you feel you've made a mistake it's not permanent. You'll never know for sure until you try it. Even though it faces north, your room has wonderful large windows, so I don't think it will be cave-like.

The only thing that gives me pause is that your sofa is dark, too. Perhaps the fireplace wall for starters?

Also nice are van Deusen Blue and Gentleman's Gray.

That shoe rack is a work of genius! And I love the bench and mirror. As for color, if you can't decide between light and dark, go medium. That's what I usually do, lol!

Great makeover on the entry! I think your mirror looks perfect; any lower and it's a problem with heads! :) As regards the dark blue, I had that color LR 30 yrs ago BUT I had primarily cream colored upholstery and that's the key. You have to have that light/dark contrast to make it work...like it does on your FP wall. I'm afraid it would not be as successful on the other walls. Like your room mine also had the white fireplace but it also had 2 huge shuttered white windows, 3 very wide openings into other rooms, white crown moulding and the cream upholstery. If your furniture contrasted I'd say give it a whirl but I really don't see it working right now with all of your furniture being dark tones.

Thank you all for your comments. This room has been a struggle for me because I'm not fond of how dark the sofa is and the rug is too brown for me. But these are non negotiable right now with my DH. I actually like the idea the sofa would get lost on a dark wall. Lol.

Since I have you all here...(someone pass the wine, LOL)... Can you please chime in on upholstery for this teak arm chair I'm rehabbing? It also has a matching foot stool. I'd like to keep it's MCM feel with a tweed, or chenille or something like that. I've included a couple of samples, along with a photo of my rug. I'm trying go with the smoky blue/gunmetal and navy blues to offset the brown, which isn't my favorite.

What sort of lighting is in the entry? Friends of ours have a dark olive green entry that I adore. It has a window facing east and the door has a window facing north, and has some nice wall sconces. Every time I go there that entry seems to embrace me with a warm, welcoming hug. Dark in an entry can be done, but I think supplemental lighting is very important. Nice redo. : )

Lighting isn't great but I could add a more substantial fixture. And we want to replace our front door so maybe opportunity to add some light there. There is just a tiny but cute, north-facing hexagonal window.

The window in the entry is so handsome, could you keep just one plant there in an eye catching pot? If you eventually can get a pretty, smallish chandelier your already attractive entry would be a jewel. I like the first blue tweed fabric too.

I was thinking about your cove ceiling with a deeper paint and wondered if it would be too cave-like. But then i saw this reveal over in Building a Home, and while it doesn't have a cove ceiling, one of the ceiling treatments is similar in paint. Check it out, it looks nice. Kind of deep blue on the ceiling

Kaillean, you did an absolutely beautiful job. Your entryway is just lovely. As far as the teak chair, although I love the second fabric you posted, I'm not sure another blue would look that good with the other blue chair. Is there another color in the rug that you like?

I know it's tricky. I'm not fond of browns or burgundy. Okay as an accent but not sure I want to invest money recovering a chair in colours I don't like. Lol. Dang DHs!
