My small bathroom makeover
Comments (10)Wall color is a light blue, and the tub is white. One of the thing's that really pulled it all together was the shower curtain. jbjust, I would love to remove the old mirror but DH has a hard enough time with what work we've already done. He's not the DIY type. I am happy, it has made such a big improvement to that little space that use to be all beige. DS came over yesterday and saw our handy work for the first time, he's a very good handyman and he praised us for the work we did. Yesterday I finished hanging the door back on and the trim, the trim is very hard to do when you have to cut and piece to fit between the door trim and wall with only half inch. A pro would have no problem but for someone that doesn't do that type of work I'd go broke if I was trying to make a living at it LOL. It took me 3 hours to do a 18 1/16" - 3" and 1/2 inch cut. The thing that I liked about doing the trim myself verses having it done was it could be done right. I use the oil based primer doing two coats front and back making it water resistant. Were the old stuff was rotting away from the back side. Next up is the kitchen but we're having to hire it out :( it's to big of a job for me. Comments (3)We have a flushmount lamp that we fondly call it "the triangle" because of its shape. It is made by Bolivar and is available at several websites and your local lamp store can order it for you too. It's in our prep area and it is Title 24 compatible and gives lots of light to work by. There are lots of lights similar to to this style and near flush mount that might work for you. I looked at lots of different lighting sites... croft and little, ylighting, brodwax all have lights at reasonable (and more!) prices that might work for you. Have you also thought about doing a custom lampshade? Could be diy or artisan? Your kitchen has lots of great colors and shapes and a spot of color of up there would be neat, imo. Have fun!...See MoreMy fireplace makeover
Comments (20)Having helped a friend paint her fireplace, I know that was a lot of work. Good job. You could have cushions made for the hearth so you could sit on either side of the opening. I've seen those before. Could be removed in the rare instance you might want a fire....See MoreFront entry needs a curb appeal makeover!
Comments (6)Consider creating a monarch station, maybe in a raised round or contoured bed made of the same kind of bricks that are on your house. There's an organization called monarchwatch.com. You might check it out. Maybe you could line the driveway somehow, with a garden bed or hedge. I think your yard would benefit from more curved shapes. Another thing you might do is to create a small grove of river birch. They are so pretty, and the colors of their bark would blend so attractively with your house. I've seen them in beds toward the front of the yards, along with natural-looking shrubs and flowers. Beautiful. The main thing I would recommend for your yard is to minimize the grass. Not only do lawns use a lot of water, take a lot of work and expense, but a large lawn, in my opinion, is monotonous. And replacing lawn is much better for the environment and the other plantings attract birds, squirrels, and so on....See MoreKaillean (zone 8, Vancouver)
