Comments (11)As a Brit living in Canada, it amazes me that dryers do not reverse tumble as ALL of them do in Europe. So I have been on the hunt for one too. I saw on a blog that GE do 'de-tangle assist' but trying to get GE to answer emails to ask them is like getting blood out of a stone. I have been to 2 large appliance stores on Vancouver Island, BC who have completely stopped selling GE for that exact reason. I spoke to a lady in Sears appliance dept today and she also says it's embrasssing when customers come in complaining that they leave scores of messages and NO ONE gets back to them.I am going with Fisher and Paykel, bonus too is that their warranty is twice as long as anyone else.I am not bothered about the look as long as it does the job and they are only in the laundry room after all. Good luck to anyone thing of buying GE. Hope this sheds some light on the situation....See MoreAriston Washer/Dryer combo - wrinkling problem
Comments (18)> Fagor makes good machines too, but they need 220 lines They work better, or at least much faster, than any other W/D combo sold in the US for that reason - the powerful 2500 watt internal heater quickly heats the water during the wash cycle for better cleaning, than speeds drying (and reduces wear on clothes) by shortening the dry cycle because it can draw 2500 watts rather than only 1000 watts typical for drying on a 110 volt combo dryer. But Fagor is in financial trouble (bankrupt, with two companies that may or may not buy their assets and honour their warranties) They've pulled their laundry machines from their US website, though several seem to remain in the pipeline. LG is the only manufacturer with a large US presense selling combo W/Ds in America, and the only one selling oversize machines of the size now common in new washers and dryers, that can wash and dry a load almost as big as an old top-load washer could wash. But both their large and small combos are hobbled by 120 volt/15 amp electricals, which can only draw 1/4 of the power used by a standard American dryer and are thus dog-slow....See MoreLG Top Loader washers??
Comments (64)I had inadvertently posted this in "Appliance". Thought this would be better served for the "Laundry" folks: OK, top load v. front load. Here's my story. I had the infamous Maytag Neptune W/D front load (tip: if someone tries to sell you a "NEPTUNE" ... run). I had it for 11yrs, going through all the smelly troubleshooting. This past October, I couldn't stand it anymore and started doing my research. My research found: ALL front loaders will exhibit the mildew smell if 1) you don't clean the gasket 2) don't prop the door open 3) use a "sanitizer". I'm all about conserving water and energy and usually wouldn't look twice at a top loader. I was seriously drooling over the new Samsungs ... until I happened upon the new LG top loaders. I found that this new top loader uses about or less than the amount of water that the front loaders use. It also has a great Waveforce technology that doesn't use a "clothes damaging" agitator as the normal top loaders use. I was going to pay the same for a front loader, but didn't want the inconvenience of fighting the mildew. I went for the LG WT5101H (matching dryer) ... and GAVE away the (still working) Neptune set to a womens shelter (and full 'mildew-be-gone' written instructions). Now we've had this for little less than a month. There is no front loader that can handle the loads I can do, using the same amount of water. As previously posted, it also has the Sanitary hot water heater up to 158degrees (that the pricier front loaders have). I also followed many Appliance forums (washer repair specific) and the new GE Profiles, Maytag Bravo's and Kenmore's are on the top of the repair list. I saw nothing for LG top loaders. There is a HUGE 10yr direct drive motor warranty ... that's a big deal. So, yea, here's a vote for this top loader. I won't buy into the overhyped marketing of front loaders too much; although I will agree that they do clean well (not better) and save water. I do not agree that I need to do daily "mildew maintenance" instead of quarterly cleaning. ...and as of today, I just saw Best Buy selling these for 699.00 Here is a link that might be useful: LG WT5101HW Washer...See MoreLG Washers & Dryers Part 19
Comments (74)greetings everyone, i'm new here, but have been reading over all the comments... i'm glad to know i'm not the only one who's had issues with the LE error code... i actually found this forum looking for advice on that very thing. my now wife (girlfriend at the time) bought the lg washer and dryer while i was out of town of business about a year ago. at the time i thought it was a huge waste to spend that much, but now i don't know how i ever did laundry without them lol. ours worked fine until about 5 months ago when it threw the first code. i did all the things the book said and waited for a service tech. i wish now i'd paid better attention because i don't remember what he did, but there is a series of buttons that put the washer into a test cycle. anyway everything tested fine, he said it was probably a glitch in the computer board. he said he'd replaced several of them already with the same problem... hadn't had a problem since till tonight when it happened again. this time i just killed the breaker for about 10 minutes (because the plugs way to hard to get to) and then i came back on and is finishing up now (just heard it beeping) i wanted to thank louisaemma for the info on cleaning and the fabric softner... we've always used the he detergent but it never crossed my mind to use less softner... I'll be cleaning it first thing in the morning. oh and another thing... i'm not sure to the certainty of this but according to my wife because we have the extended warranty through best buy if we report 3 problems requiring service in a year they have to replace the unit... or a much easier route would be getting a service tech nice enough to just swap out the boards for you if the problem persists... thanks for letting me ramble...See Morelinus2003
