Here's a candidate who makes sense...
Comments (4)Gotta love that Bill Cosby ... but seriously everyone, this is an important election, and not matter which party you support ... GET OUT AND VOTE!!! Since most of us are ladies at this forum, I'll mention as we all know, that women couldn't even vote until about 100 years ago. I think our younger generations don't realize how hard it was to get that right, and everyone should exercise it. Iron Jawed Maidens was a very good movie on this very subject. I always say one shouldn't complain about an elected official if they don't vote LOL. And oh yeah baby, I've already voted, always vote early. It's our civic duty. Makes me feel good ... we have a great country, and we're having some rough times right now, but hopefully we will see a better economy and a peaceful world someday. Pray for our military, hubby was a Navy man on the riverboats in Vietnam, I know what it's like to have your loved one serve, and they serve well no matter what their political opinions are, they do what they are asked and I'm proud of them all. I always support our military no matter what I think about the wars we ask them to serve in. Okay I'm getting windy lol ~tenderlee...See MoreDoes this grab bar idea make sense?
Comments (2)Beth, It sounds like you are converting the bathtub to just a shower. I have MS and we did the same thing. Our configuration is a little different. The short front wall has the shower controls and the hand held on a sliding bar, Grohe Relexa Plus bar, with a Grohe Movario hand held. The 12-inch vertical grab bar, Mfg. Ginger, is also on that wall. The shower hose is in the same place as the old shower was located  no plumbing to move. The shower bar is almost as high so that when the hand held is up in its highest position it is just about the height of a regular shower- this combined with the extension (and flexibility) of the Movario makes it as convenient as a regular shower for my husband. A six foot hose should be more than adequate. Mine is 5 ft and that is just fine. I know some will tell you to place the longer grab bar on a diagonal. This is really not recommended. Wet hands may slip, and much better leverage is obtained by placing it horizontally. My bar, placed on the long wall, next to my shower chair, is 18 inches and that is sufficient for me. As far as height- what ever is convenient for your Mom. Mine is at about wrist height when I am standing. Pam...See Moreold kitchen space--does this make sense?
Comments (28)Fori, my parents just bought an Eichler on the Peninsula as their retirement home project. It's mahogalicious! In fact, they too have the kitchen opening directly to the right as you enter the front door. Paneling as far as the eye can see. My mom is despairing because the paneling darkens the place but she can't/won't paint it out of historical respect. I agree on the virtues of a smaller more private entranceway as a place to take off one's hat, check lipstick and correct slip peekage before tromping straight into the living room. Ideal if you have room for a coatrack, shelf for purses, and a mirror. We have a tiny little 5x5 vestibule with a second door and love it. Besides being great for stopping thermal loss, it's the perfect cat airlock. People do forget that in sunny climes, you really don't need-capital-N a mudroom for dirty boots & dripping coats. But you could use my plan above and add a nice big coat closet or mudroom with shoe bench to the right of the door, either only on one side, or across the whole shebang, giving you another doorway between hall and office/laundry room. This would also be swell if you go shoeless in the house. My Japanese friends have special shoe racks with guest slippers in that very spot. With that said, I'm off to shovel the 10" of new snow we just got last night here in Maine. My outlaws are arriving today for a long visit, 'nuff said....See MoreDoes this tv placement make sense?
Comments (16)I would add drywall so that the fireplace is recessed. Not 2 levels of drywall. It will not look weird. Sorry but your existing recessed shelf is a bit odd looking as it is. You don't need to put the dvd player and and dish network box close to the TV. They can go anywhere in the room (anywhere in the house actually). There's a little receiver that you plug into the TV, and the other end is a transmitter that gets plugged into the dvd player and and dish network box. It transmits the signal wirelessly to the receiver you've plugged into the TV. Not complicated or expensive. Just be sure that the transmitter has enough plugs for all the things that currently plug into your TV, and if you have HDMI be sure that it is a HDMI transmitter too. We live in a wireless world now! I think the TV should be hung as low as possible. I would not worry about the light switch. There are brackets made to hold TVs on the wall. If you want the TV to disappear a bit more, paint the wall a dark colour, maybe one of the dark colours of the fireplace. Paint the light switch cover and plug covers too....See MoreUser
