Pip-pip-pooray!
Comments (6)Yes, MOCC, I see more pips (Raspberry Sundae, Paradise Island) BUT we also had a terrible rainstorm last night ending in HAIL & SNOW. I am worried that the pips were damaged by the cold. The night time temps hit 32 degrees for an hour or two. The pips seemed OK this morning, but damage may have occurred to them. AND, some Darned Squirrel uprooted entirely one of my hostas. I don't know which one, because the I.D. stake was missing. I found the hosta roots barely covered by soil plus the non-pipped top of it, all on top of the soil. I hastily toed out a hole and put the hosta in it with my shoe, gently. Then I kicked soil over it. You are not allowed to garden during Passover, but you could make a rough save of a plant like I did. I am worried that, without soil cover, the hosta will have been damaged by the cold. The roots were certainly moist after the rain deluge hour after hour. I had to walk to my host's for the seder in that deluge, quite a nice long walk. I wore my head-to-ankles LLBean raincoat with a warm fleece jacket under that, which sufficed to get me from Point A to Point B and back again without getting soaked or frozen. I was more worried about my hostababies and the snow!...See MorePip, Pip, Hooray!
Comments (25)Wow, BIG increasing. Pictures, please :) Here sping has been cold. I have only two hostas in ground, which have pips (noid and for my suprise Great Expectation. Others are still sleeping. But that is good, we got more snow this weeks monday. We had already all snow melted, but in one night in snowed 10cm. Now all snow has gone and sun is shining. Forecast looks that we will finally have warmer weather. So of course I had to buy few hostas ;) NIce pip counting for everyone....See MoreAnyone see a pip yet?
Comments (29)I took a look around the yard today and found some more pips. Can’t believe it! They are not up, up, just barely showing if I search a bit: found Royal Standard, Wolverine,Silver Lode and Mighty Mouse. The Stella Day Lily is also up. Still there are probably more but too cold to search much in the front yard where the wind is!! I know, I’m a wimp. debra...See MorePretty in Pink Eden climber flower doesn’t look like PIP
Comments (6)Is it very hot where you are? I grow both regular and PiP Eden and haven’t seen that before but heat can reduce the petal count and cause stripes like that. I’m in the PNW and my Edens are mostly resting during the hottest part of the summer and our hot isn’t very hot compared to other places....See Moreperen.all Zone 5a Ontario Canada
