We have a sloped ceiling in a bathroom we recently renovated. I took the tile up the the lower side of the slope. This is how it turned out. I like having the higher ceiling in the shower.

Thanks homebound and native_tx for your input! I did consider getting frameless custom doors (they're lovely), but the only option the builder gave without significant extra cost was for semi-frameless (ie. with top and bottom metal rails). And of course, now he states that he CAN'T FIND ANY DOORS that will fit my shower. The usual standard height is 71", too tall for my shower. It would be easier to tell him that there is such a door on the market, rather than ask him to provide a custom door. I looked on the showerdoorcanada and the lineaaqua sites that homebound suggested and neither seem to carry frameless sliding shower doors less than 70" in height. Any other suggestions?

If you want a 24" door then yes the opening must be larger to account for all you mentioned, definitely.

I think I would have had them put the side piece out further so that the ledge from the cap is inside the shower, not outside. It can be useful inside. Then a 3" piece could be used in between the door and the side piece so they can meet in a more intentional looking way. At a minimum the side piece should be in the center of the cap, and there's no reason not to place it even further out. That's the way we had our glass done on the three bathrooms we remodeled that had shower glass.
