Got my miracid yesterday and applied it. Will see how it does. Re: Hydrophobic I have been testing the moisture with a wooden skewer and the mix seems to be fine as far as moisture is concerned. I did read that blueberries don't like to have the top of the soil dry out at all though, is this true? Should i go ahead and mulch the containers? Any recommendations for type of mulch? Thanks for the responses. I had a project pop up and then neglected to take on the mold, not to mention watering everything religiously (except the tomatoes)-- which, of course, alleviated the mold issue while the blueberry in this pot suffered. It's still there but infinitely less, as I now take care to water just the soil without hosing the whole pot freely, but it does seem ridiculous to me that an outdoor planter can't take a slightly wet pot! I'd demand a refund if I could even move this thing, haha. The slightly warmer weather is probably drying out the pot quicker, too. Ryan, I did take a BBQ lighter to it before I ever posted this thread, haha. I was just sitting there looking at it, and .... well, it's kinda pyro of me, but I tried it. Knowing me, though, if I tried to do a controlled burn on this, I'mma set the whole building on fire. I'll try that vinegar + cinnamon idea. Ohio, are you treating it or leaving it alone? -Grace.

That's an over all good guide but their mix for soil is complicated. I'm growing blue berries in containers right now (in fact I'm gonna go check on them after this post) and for my initial mix I just used spaghnum peat moss and soil in a 50/50 ratio. Then I shredded some azaleas (not necessary, just something I had growing nearby so I used them), planted the blueberries, and then covered the top of the plant around the base with a mulch/compost (mine was an oak tree that we lost the year before and had saved part of it for compost). Then you need to keep your acidity around 4 - 5.5 pH and you should be fine. And once you get those blueberries growing, check the site below to help diagnose any problems. franktank, there's no way those containers are going to be big enough. You'll definitely need to replant. just me, I don't grow blueberries in containers, but I'll try to answer your questions anyway. 1. Should I have bought two of this particular variety for better pollination? Two of the same variety will not increase pollination. With some varieties (more so on Southern Highbush and Rabbiteye) you may get better pollination with two different varieties, but the jury's really still out on that one. Two different varieties certainly isn't necessary for good fruit set. Also, if you do have two varieties, you'll need to make sure the bloom time overlaps. 2. What size container would be good for a Blue Jay blueberry plant? The bigger the better, most likely. 3. Is a plastic pot okay? Should be. 4. I live in Zone 6. Will the plant(s) be okay in the winter if I'm growing in a container? Probably not, given the temperature difference between soil in a pot and the soil in the ground. I'm afraid that would kill the roots. They'd be ok in an unheated garage. 5. I'm short of 'full sun' areas in my yard. How would this plant do in dappled shade? You won't get as much fruit as you would in full sun. Give them as much as possible. 6. Any suggestions for another variety I can grow so my berry harvest will be staggered?
