WANTED: What do you drink and not drink?
Comments (77)It was fun reading all of this, especially since it goes back to '06. That first post of Lars with the cherry cream soda...yummmy. I only consume coffee if it's ice cream, Kahlua or some other dessert. I like tea, black, green, but not any spiced teas. Really dislike mint too. Mostly I drink flavored unsweetened seltzer, iced tea or lemonade. Occasionally I'll have a fruit soda, but I find them too sweet these days so I mix them with my seltzer. Alcohol? Not really. Don't like wine as a rule. I can deal with a little champagne or Asti. Will drink vodka, that Kahlua making it a Black Russian. Smiles. I can go several years or more without having any alcohol. Last year I turned my current [at the time] vodka into vanilla. This fall an old friend from high school came to visit and brought a bottle of vodka. I had 2 light Cape Cods and when he left I turned the Svedka into vanilla. LOL. In winter in the evening we either have hot tea or hot cocoa often. I do love hot chocolate made with cocoa or even a nice chocolate bar....See MoreHow Many Like Graham Crackers?
Comments (25)Graham crackers are a staple here. With peanut butter or icing spread between two crackers. I like to make up several at a time and let them sit for a day till the grahams get a little soft. When I was in grade school and could come home for lunch my mom often gave me graham crackers spread with peanut butter to dunk in a cup of hot Postum. To this day that is a 'comfort' food for me. Course it has to be coffee instead of Postum which has disappeared. Anybody remember it?...See MoreButtermilk: how to tell if spoiled?
Comments (10)Thanks, everyone. My husband does like to drink it. I donÂt think it tastes bad exactly but I wouldnÂt ask for a glassful. I canÂt ask him to taste it. He is convinced that something is spoiled practically the day after it is opened. This from the guy who likes strong yogurt. We had a long discussion when my brother-in-law visited (first visit to the US from Iran), about cultured milk products. There everyone eats yogurt, everyday, almost at every meal, or yogurt cheese. While he was here he got to try sour cream and buttermilk, and many other kinds of cheeses. We actually took him to a cheese factory in Wisconsin. Then of course we had to make recipes featuring these items. Blue cheese was his absolute favorite. We ended up eating it almost daily. He was really mystified by buttermilk. We tried to explain what is was supposed to be, then what it ISÂit got really confusing. I wish there were not so many additives added to it. Now anyone have any tips in freezing it? I thought IÂd measure out ½ amounts, which is the amount most of my scone recipes call for, pour into a baggie inside a glass, seal, then freeze. Is there a better way?...See MoreHow much water do you drink a day?
Comments (32)Posted by aptosca: "If I drink too much liquids it makes me nauseous. I told that to the Urologist and he looked at me strangely like I was crazy. " You can DIE from drinking too much water. It has happened to people. Too much water throws the electrolyte balance off. Posted by loggerbaby: "i read somewhere you can literally drown yourself by drinking too much water." No. No, you cannot "drown" by drinking too much water. There is no way to consume so much water that your lungs fill up with water. The body does not work that way. If someone dies because their lungs are filled with fluid, it is solely due to a bacterial infection of the lungs, like pneumonia or some other malady - not because they drank a lot of water. ----------- Drinking more water than your body needs won't make your hair shiny like so many people think. Nor will it make your skin look young and your nails grow faster. It won't help you lose weight or get smarter. One should listen to their body's cues. Drink water when you are thirsty. Drink water shortly before any strenuous activity like swimming or Yoga where you know you will be sweating to keep the body cool. That water needs to be replaced. Drinking water that has caffeine added to it (iced tea/coffee) in an attempt to rehydrate, sort of defeats the purpose. Caffeine is a diuretic and causes the body to rid itself of the water and actually can cause dehydration no matter how many gallons of ice tea are drank. This is the same reason that a person can die of thirst on a life raft in the middle of the ocean. People scratch their heads and wonder in amazement how someone could die of thirst in the middle of the ocean. >>Its because the ocean is salty.I can't tell you how many times I've seen people dump salt on their food because in their mind, they think that since the salt causes them to drink more water, that they are "doing the body good". ------------ A guy in my neighborhood died from drinking too much water. Here is a fairly recent news story about the woman who drank too much water in a contest and died immediately afterward. The radio station got sued because the station KNEW that the stunt was dangerous. A woman who identified herself as a nurse called in live, on the show and said the contest should stop because someone could die. The DJ laughed and hung up on her.
