Brown Spots on my new Jade
Comments (4)that looks more like drying up of recent damage incurred in the sales/shipment-from-grower process. But looking at the soil, it looks like it's been overwatered at the garden center. I'd repot in a grittier mix if you are going to water a lot. Divide away, they don't care....See MoreMy new Hummel's Sunset jade
Comments (26)Hi Val, I am so glad you gave Lorraine a shot. Isn't her plants great? She emailed me pics of diffrent blooming cacti she has right now and I am debating on buying one of them but I am not sure if I want something else yet. I looked at the one you bought for a while but I decided to get mine because it was more full. I also asked her if she had a picture of the jade she sent to me so she could check it out and tell me if it had that weeping form when she had it and she said yes. She also told me that I would probobly end up having to prune it to get it to produce growth that wouldn't weep. I did accidently break off a large branch by trying to tie it to a stake so it could straghten for me. Well, now I have a cutting that is about 8 inches long and I have laid it down on the turface to see if it will root. What size was the pot yours came in? What did you think of her prices? I thought they were VERY fair. I had to laugh when she sent it to me she packed it in a box that had a beer logo on it and the post office told her that she would have to repackage it because it wouldn't get to me. LOL..Poor Lorraine must have been so frustrated. She told the postal worker that the jade weighed less than a can of beer. I couldn't believe that and it made me nervous thinking she sent the wrong jade but when I got it, it was surprisingly light. How tall is your tree? Comments (57)Hi I have finally taken a photo, sorry it's dark (end of the day). I copy/paste my former comment. I had to delete it because I couldn't add the photo : Camellia, my variegated Blue Bird is not growing anymore, it seems dormant and looks exactly the same. We had an exceptionnal heat wave for 2 weeks with temps over +35°c and some plants didn't like it (the less rooted ones, the smallest ones and/or the more variegated ones). As Legolas and variegated Gollum keep growing (very slowly), I conclude that my variegated Blue Bird is not rooted enough to face the heat. It should grow again with the first rains of september or october....See MoreQuestions about my Jade Plant (New at this :D)
Comments (6)Welcome on GW! 1. Watering depends on what type of soil you used. I water mine when potting media is completely dry (estimated by lifting the pot and feeling if its heavy or not). Then I give them a good drink, let the excess drain away and let them be for a good 2-3 weeks. These plants are succulents, so they can go for months without water. 2.Decorative rocks are okay, if the soil is able to breathe underneath. Again question is what type is the soil. 3. Stump look okay, calloused. It may leaf out by time. If you don't like the look, you can cut it off. 4. Leaning can have 2 causes. First is: the plant is not anchored well, top heavy and leaning a bit. You can fix that, keeping it in place until roots are able to hold it upright. 2nd cause: plant is reaching for light. Place the pot closer to a window or provide supplemental lighting. Now my questions :) What type of soil did you use? Does the pot have drainage holes? Which way is your window facing? Are those brown things fallen/shrunken leaves in the pot? How often do you water?...See MoreKelly Corder
