LWO, I believe you're right, that we are tipping heavily toward vintage right now and it may be time to right the boat, so to speak. Here's another thing that occurred to me...I've been searching for a black range because in all my "best" inspiration photos, there is a black range (usually french but sometimes a black pro style like a Viking or a Bluestar) with a stainless steel backsplash and hood. Looks great, but then I realized they also have stainless steel countertops on either side of the classic range, whereas I will have soapstone. More vintage!! Maybe the french range wouldn't work in my case? I could go with a Wolf or Bluestar, and still pair it with the Modern-Aire stainless steel hood, but then what would I use for backsplash? Wouldn't ss be too much then? Plain white subway? plain white subway with utensil rack? LWO and others, care to comment?

I love advice, thank you. I am in love with the white, but I thought it would wash out the kitchen. I am no designer and always hear about contrast so I figured I would try to tie in my floor. I like pressed tin, especially the real antique tin with the patina of years. However, I've always wondered how on earth one would clean it with the irregular surface on a backsplash. Is is necessary to use spray cleaner and a brush to scrub it? I'm neither overly OCD or a sloppy cook but I know stuff gets splashed no matter how careful one is. I expect if it was sealed well with a clear finish it would be best. Another concern for me would be (as previously mentioned) that they have a busy pattern and would look best with a plain countertop. Or one could use a plain tile and paint with only light antiquing. I bought some repro tin tiles to use on a room divider screen. They are a lot less expensive than the vintage/antique ones. On the black wash idea: it would give it depth, but it's a small kitchen and have a strong feeling it would "take over" ( I have a lot of black accents in the house..love spray paint) Getting the hub. to help paint again is not looking too bright a path. Hmmm, the green? That's a strong possibility. Everyone has been so wonderful and helpful. Going to continue the conversation and ideas for about 2 -3 more days.
