Ratio of eggs to milk/french toast...
Comments (13)This is a good recipe.... Ingredients for French Toast: 6 eggs 1/3 cup strawberry preserves 1 1/2 cup milk (may use a combination of milk and half & half) 1 loaf French bread (1pound) sliced 3/4 inch thick 1 quart fresh strawberries cleaned and sliced. Sugar to taste Strawberry Butter: 1/3 cup strawberry preserves 1/4 cup softened butter Also: Powdered sugar Almonds, sliced and toasted Whipped topping Beat eggs with milk and preserves. Dip slices of French bread into egg mixture. Place bread in large pan. Pour any extra egg mixture over bread. Cover and refrigerate overnight. Make strawberry butter by blending ingredients in a food processor or combine well with a spoon. Cook French toast in a greased griddle heated to 300 F. Turning several times until golden brown. To serve: place two slices of French Toast on each plate. Generously spread strawberry butter on each slice of toast. Top with sweetened sliced strawberries. Sprinkle on toasted sliced almonds. Top with a spoonful of whipped topping. Dust with powdered sugar. Serve with favorite breakfast meat, if desired. Makes 6-8 servings....See MoreFreezing milk and eggs??
Comments (4)I don't like the texture change in yolks if they are frozen as whole eggs. I break a dozen eggs into a bowl and whip with a whisk until they are just blended, not fluffy at all. Then I freeze in ice cube trays. I have two older trays that make quite large ice cubes, so when I divide the egg mixture, each cube equals one egg, for use in baking, etc. I've also frozen two or three "eggs worth" per container in empty small yogurt tubs, etc., then popped them out and put in a freezer bag for easy storage. Comments (60)In all the Aldi stores I've seen, they carry several different levels of hamburger fat content. Why pay for it? Well, I've yet found a store to discount for it! LOL Nor do they discount for the "water added" in hams, or the "gravy packet" in turkey breasts, and they just get thrown away too. :) Plus many people want a higher fat content for certain things. If I'm trying to cut the fat a bit more, I'll cook the burger in some water. That makes a big difference. Obviously you need to do some math to see how much meat you're getting for your money when you do that. Sometimes cheaper is the better value, sometimes the expensive is the better value. Grainlady those bags are interesting. But the problem I've run into is some of the cashiers deliberately try to make things more difficult. I don't quite understand why but often if you put a box or bag in there, they'll refuse to put it in there.. I know you got them as a gift which is nice. They'd be nearly $10 each so I guess I'll just keep on with doubled paper "handle" bags I keep a stack of in my vehicle. I also keep some plastic bags in there too. Guess I need to bring an extra person and have them put the stuff on the conveyer and i'll pack it myself. But that's a waste of another persons' time too. Oh, one interesting little tidbit: I was there one time and grabbed my cart as usual. Got into the store and it was jammed. As usual only 2 checkouts going and people were lined up halfway down the aisles! Don't remember, maybe was close to a holiday weekend or something but everyone's cart was jammed too. Well, try to take the cart back out the "in" door and the wheels lock. Much like some places where if you put them on an angle, like going down the curb, the wheels lock then too. I didn't even get out the door with it, I got within about 3 feet or so and they locked. So I dragged it through the store and switched with one of the spares at the checkout and went and got a quarter back. Didn't go back there for a while either. That's the problem I have with Aldi, and for that matter Walmart, and back when I used to go to Scam's Club occasionally. I hate the lack of checkouts so if it's busy I won't stand in line to give people my money. Just one of my pet peeves....See MoreWhat Are The Price of Eggs in Your Neck of The Woods?
Comments (30)Marilyn Sue, I loved my chickens, and they were free range during the day and I closed them up during the night. One day I was going to the flea market and driving down I 10 and I passed a pitiful chicken sitting by the road in the middle of no where. I found a place to turn around and went back and got her. She was an old hen who had probably served out her usefulness as a layer and had fallen off a big truck going to a processing plant for cat food, in Alabama, I think. She was a white leghorn and she looked awful....had been de-beaked and she was so pale...comb was pink, not red. I took her home and took care of her. She actually laid a few more eggs. I didn't have a chicken house or pen, so every day, I staked her out by tying a string loosely to her leg. She adapted to it well and liked eating a little grass. I kept her until she died. Actually, I think a raccoon eventually got her, but at least her life was good for a while....See More- 9 years ago
