Continuing with Jasdip's self checkout thread....

I think I see both sides of the self checkout vs the cashier checkout. At Stop and Shop, I use the wand. I scan and bag all my groceries as I shop. I think checkout at a self check station by registering my barcode at the register. Done!

Like everything else, something there are snafus or sometimes you are stopped to be audited. These two issue require a person to rectify the situation.

When I go to a store that just has cashiers, I feel spoiled!

Being a cashier is a good entry level job, and I know some who has stayed for years like Debby who posted in Jasdip's thread and count on having this job to help support themselves and their families.

What would happen if shoppers refused to use the self checkout? Would it matter?

I think stores save so much money with automation, even taking into account theft of dishonest shoppers, so it wouldn't pay for them to go back to all cashiers.
