The Target Experience
Comments (34)I still use checks, as well. Don't know how those of you who don't manage? Just today, I wrote a check to the builder who's finishing out our garage. It was either a check or cash but certainly not a debit card. I live in a small village with lots of Mom/Pop shops. They don't take plastic...so I write checks. My cleaning lady doesn't take plastic either & I don't always have enough cash. Same with the piano teacher. Anyway, I'm amazed that some don't write checks anymore. I'm a genealogist & my DH & I take frequent grave searching expeditions. On this particular trip...we started in NH, went to the northern most part of Vermont, headed down through MA, & then on to Pennsylvania returning through the southern tip of NY. We made this trip is just 4 days. We made purchases along the way with a credit card. In PA, at a gas stop our credit card was denied. We're both bankers so we weren't worried...knew why but still had to call the service. They said that they were concerned that our card had been snatched since we hadn't used it in a few months & purchases had been made in several states in just a few days. No problem. We were GLAD they were being attentive. As bankers, we're aware of the fraud that's happening. You just wouldn't believe how bad it's gotten. Not a week goes by without some new fraud scheme being detected at the bank. Our bank (and employer) has instigated new online protections that are almost onerous to use but I'm sure it will only become more so. We've stopped using online banking & DH IS EXECUTIVE MANAGEMENT! They try so hard to keep everybody safe but these fraud rings are getting very, very sophisticated. So many of the scams are coming out of eastern Europe. Somebody can steal your plastic (or just the number) here in the US & within 45 minutes an exact copy of your debit or credit card has been made in some place like the Chech Republic, & is being used in France that evening to purchase a diamond necklace...and that's no joke. You have my very best wishes for a speedy recovery. For those of you who rely on plastic to handle your finances...take every single precaution you can & still be concerned enough to pay close attention. Also, be familar with bank liability (or, the lack thereof) in the event a fraud scheme manages to find you. It's not their fault somebody gets a hold of your number & they're not always responsible. Comments (17)Wow, I am sorry some people don't see the extra benefits of having "trained" greeters. No one wants a job where they are considered mentally and/or physically lazy. These folks chose to work rather than take from their counties and cities. They either got a good supervisor or a loser. That is something they can't control if wm hires them as a line item on their budget as a PR stunt rather than give them meaningful training on how the store works and a map of it to learn and pass out. It appears that some have no idea how hard it is to get a job after you are considered to old to work by your last employer. These greeters have been the "only" people who welcomed me into this frickin store. I ask them for help because when given a chance you may discover like me 1) they give me individual attention and know where things are 2) they are estactic to get some respect, eye contact and a couple of people to talk to and help. They even give me a little more info then I asked for which I thank them for 3) I know they were more than greeters in their lifetime and I want them to keep their jobs and make a little money; not just what the government tells people they can have. 4) they are somebody's family in MY country. Who among us will discover that we would be lucky to get a job as a greeter....See MoreAre the planets out of whack? Rant
Comments (10)pesky, I took the liberty of getting out my tarot and did a reading for you regarding work. Since I only know you from gw, it was interesting doing one for someone I don't know in person - I do this as a lark for my family so this not to be taken too seriously! (but yours was interesting!) anyway, here it goes... base of the matter you have cut someone off cold where you are now new avenues are opening up hopes and fears a position of power is in the future along with new determination present and passing you have had an upsetting confrontation but it will be resolved forces for and against you something will happen that is not as planned near future you feel as though you have been plodding along with no reward. something new is coming how the future will unfold an offer is in your future new turn of events practical help is arriving future you have no interest in an offer, but it's ok. new avenues are opening outcome you will impress someone and you will be in demand and popular. (that last one sounded like a fortune cookie) 3 of the 10 cards were sixes. Many sixes indicate adjustments in thoughts, attitudes and conditions and also represent the ability to transcend difficulties. bee and kellyang, I am so sorry for your loss....See MoreAnother Joann's RANT! Comments (5)I suspect a fleece blanket (from Target, BB&B, Wally World, etc.,) would be a better size and be cheaper than yards o' crap from Joann's. What's the maximum width on fleece fabric, 44 inches? not even wide enough for a full bed. Get past the idea it's cheaper to make than buy. It isn't anymore. http://www.target.com/p/target-home-super-soft-fleece-blanket/-/A-10916178...See MoreAdella Bedella
