I do like to see the movies that are nominated because I figure they're probably pretty good, but I am not into competition and don't like to watch award shows.

Love the Oscars and never miss them. Love Kimmel and watch him every night. Love the political commentary because it totally echoes my views.

I'll watch the runway red carpet portion and the opening monologue and then decide from there. I don't go to movies so I don't usually watch the rest.

I will probably watch. I like the political statements. I think it's important for people to voice their objections via any platform that they can, and these celebrities have a much bigger impact/audience than most people.

I find them extremely boring, long-winded, self-congratulatory, pretentious, and sometimes downright embarrassing. I will be watching last week's Victoria and this week's Walking Dead.

Many actors are highly intelligent people. They use their talents and celebrity to address their public concerns -- in person and by making films that explore social issues. I always welcome hearing reasoned opinions on issues. Politicians set up soapboxes to promote themselves and their ideas. Actors are entitled to state their opinions too.

What a YAWN. I will check out the dresses tomorrow. The rest snooze. You are correct chisue they are entitled, if they spend the money, and if they warn us ahead of time so we have the choice to listen or not!! These awards shows are not about politics it is the height of rude to shanghai them for a personal agenda.

Definitely not watching. Have no interest in what they have to say. I have plenty to do besides waste it watching the ego awards. My time will be better spent coloring to try to get movement in my hands. That's productive. We watch the rare movie when it comes to TV. I like the animated supposedly for kids movies better anyway.

I am an old fashioned gal who said, I "use to" enjoy the shows for entertainment , fashions, etc. Those days are apparently,..... gone! Actors have a right to voice opinions, yes, but not on these shows. They can very well go on cable news shows, and express all the views they want. I agree with arcy-gw, , that is not the time, or place. Oh well, I'm sure I can find something else to do, it's just sad it had come to this..

I will only be watching the intro because I enjoy Jimmy Kimmel and watch him nightly. I rarely watch movies, so the rest of the show does not interest me. I will probably watch some of the red carpet.

I wouldn't be interested in the 'considered opinions' of a Miss America/Universe/Whatsis contestant. I am interested in other people's opinions on social issues -- including actors -- as long as they support their arguments.

I have to watch....my movie group is having its annual Oscar party tonight. I, too, think actors have a right to voice their opinion just as everyone else does. However, I don't like to hear it at award shows. didn't like it when Marlon Brando sent his Indian friend to accept his award and have never liked it since. There's lots of shows on T.V. that would welcome these people to come on and voice their views and that's the time to do it. JMO I suspect the viewing audience will be way down this year and won't be at all surprised. People are getting rather tired of the rants. I agree with Morgan Freeman and Mathew McConaughey.....it's time to move on.

Obviously, a lot depends on whether or not you happen to agree with the political opinions voiced. When I was a registered Conservative in the late 1960's I was singing with one of my stepdaughters when I told her that Joan Baez should stick to her music and leave speeches about the war at home. I needed a 15-year-old to tell me basically what Chi said above (quoting Chi): "I think it's important for people to voice their objections via any platform that they can, and these celebrities have a much bigger impact/audience than most people."

Today, I cheer them on. And although many of those who commented in this thread think I will be wasting my time tonight, I do plan to watch the show.

I would just like the show to get back to what it was. If I want to hear political views, I'll watch a news or talk show. Again, that's the correct platform to use.

I haven't watched it in years and don't plan to tonight. I have no objection to whatever statements they wish to make regardless of which side of the issues they are on, but since I don't know who 90% of them are, I'm just not interested in watching the show.

What a hoot - they just brought in a group of tourists who were on a Hollywood double decker tour bus. The celebrities in the audience seem to be having as much fun as the tourists.

Yes I'm watching. I enjoy the fashions and jewelry and in the morning I probably won't remember who won what. I seldom stay up for the entire show, it's way too long. The political speeches bore me - even when I agree with the message.

I guess someone (??) must have put the Best Actress card in the Best Picture envelope. Warren Beatty said it read, "Emma Stone, La La Land." Too bad he and Faye Dunaway didn't get confirmation on that before announcing it. I don't think Faye noticed Emma's name.

I watched, while flipping back and forth with another channel. The last 2 minutes were unbelievable. When the man appeared with headphones on, I thought something strange was going on. Looks like he gave the man accepting from La La Land, the correct envelope, and had to announce it himself! and show it to the camera. What a screw up. Beatty did explain what happened..He should have asked to confirm, but then, that would have been awkward too. Why did Jimmy Kimmel sound like he took the blame?

It looked like Warren Beatty knew something was wrong and was looking for another card but then Faye Dunaway just grabbed the card from him and I guess didn't read it properly. I actually thought it was perhaps a tie.

I thought it was kind of Kimmel to take the blame. How the wrong card ever got into the best pic envelope will be interesting to learn.

Alisande, Faye seemed to be thinking Warren was messing with the audience, concerning the long pause, when in reality he was trying to figure out what he was seeing. Now Steve Harvey has got company. :)

I dont watch but watching the news this am and the gaffe is all over the place. So now I am wondering----- who were the auditors and do the auditors only verify the votes or do they also place in envelopes and distribute and label? Hmmmmmm wonder whose job that was. Uh oh.

Didn't watch but I kept seeing the political rants on my Facebook feed. IMO the mistake over the award was a blessing in disguise. It took the focus off the Hollywood elite whining against the country that gave then the opportunity to make the ridiculous amount of money they do instead of being grateful. So their little hissy fits got buried under the error. :-D

I don't watch any awards shows. "Oh look! I got a trophy for pretending to be someone else!" I do that daily when I'm nice to customers who are mean to me. I don't get a trophy. ;) And I saw a news clip this morning showing Faye Dunaway giving the best movie award to the wrong people! Poor Warren Beatty was literally left holding the bag. She was probably back home hiding under her blankets before anyone realized the mistake.

The unfortunate best picture mistake was the fault of the accountants who gave Beatty the wrong envelope, it wasn't Dunaway's error and she and Beatty had no reason to hide under the covers. I enjoyed the reader's digest condensed version on morning television this morning rather than watch all 4 hours of tv last night :)

I believe there are two copies/envelopes of each winner, one for each side of the stage. Sounds like it got swapped. I feel bad for whomever was responsible for such a public mistake. :(

I doubt it was a publicity stunt. It's mean for the casts of both movies. La La Land for obvious reasons, and Moonlight for missing out on the initial announcement.

CNN has a closeup of the envelope Faye is holding on their front page, and it's for actress. No one did it on purpose, I don't think. It is ironic it's so close on the heels of Steve Harvey's gaffe, but purely a coincidence. I too feel sorry for the Price Waterhouse employee that got it wrong.

It was the Price/Waterhouse gaffe since they have envelopes on both sides of the stage. Someone forgot to remove the Emma Stone one because she entered from the other side and was holding hers. I feel bad for Beatty and Dunaway. Fabulous movies were all the nominees, and I hear the winner fully deserved it.

I watched the Red Carpet with the sound turned off. Then I watched reruns of Victoria on PBS and the latest episode of The Walking Dead (which is getting too gruesome). I flipped back to the Oscars on commercials and saw the pretty young singer get clipped in the head by a blue banner. I decided I had really had enough when they brought in the "faux tourists". You think they could have hired better actors for that. It was ridiculous. I saw the Best Movie mix up on the web this morning. I am very sorry that it was first blamed on incompetent older actors/presenters. Someone's head should roll at Price Waterhouse. It was a shame the thunder was stolen from Moonlight's success.

I did love La La Land, though. Sorry I have not seen Moonlight but plan to go. I like going to the movies.

Beatty admitted he thought something was amiss. He should have asked for clarification, if he really thought there was a mistake. Dunaway should have looked closer when handed the envelope. You can bet the presenters will do that in the future!
