Win10 shows a default setting of 0 meaning the lockout count is set to unlimited tries over a period of 30 minutes. So its doubtful you will be locked out - unless you can somehow exceed that or have set it to some number of tries manually.

If its sending info to your Hotmail account, that's the account you originally set up the login password to. Normally your login is your email account like mine is for example mike123abc@hotmail.com and my Hotmail email password 'letmein' is my login password. Microsoft account has my Yahoo account, and my isp account listed as an alternate email addresses and also send messages about account changes or lost passwords to all.

If you cant remember password why not call or text the other person who has an account & request their password ? They can change the password before giving it to you then after youre logged in ok .. change it back.

Have you tried logging in with no password ? When windows asks for last password, it usually means the password used prior to your current password.

I wasn't going to say anything until luis has his problem solved but I personally think putting a password on a privately owned PC is a mistake. Situations like luis is trying to solve are all too common. There's little or nothing Top Secret on most PCs, don't convince yourself that some degree of security is needed.

It's no different with Windows 10 than with any other version of Windows, going back to Day 1. Usernames and passwords aren't required and using them provides more risk than benefit, in my opinion.

luis, I hope you get your problem solved. I can't help because I've never put a password on a PC so I don't know how to address this issue.

I was able to resolve the problem when I recalled what the password could be, tried it and it worked! Yeah!

I agree, Ed. Putting passwords should be left to the owner of the PC to decide. In a house with children, it may be needed. :o)

luis, now go to windows menu/ then windows system/ then at run type in netplwiz and take check mark out of all users must use PW at login, then you will not get that again and your PC will just boot up for you and ready to go..

My Windows 10 laptop requires no password to log on but it does have a facial recognition feature as well as a pin number you can use if the recognition feature is off or not working properly.

aputernut, netplwiz did not require taking the checkmark out; it was already "out". I do not understand then why it wants passwords if the feature is not checked... ??? Hummmmmmm :o)

If your Windows 10 logon is associated with your email address, then it must have a password. All online accounts for services such as email, Facebook, Twitter, Amazon, etc, and all Microsoft, Google and Apple IDs require passwords. Nonetheless, Windows 10 will let you set up a local account that is not password protected.

luis, I think the facial recognition feature is tied to the type of computer rather than the W10 software. I just thought it was a pretty cool way of maintaining security.......unless some one knowns my PIN, I am the only one that can use the laptop.

I also like that I am automatically signed on to both my email and Houzz - no need to re-enter passwords (it's been so long since I used it, I have no idea what my Houzz password is!!). I still need a password to access other, secure services like my bank or online bill paying.

Used a MS Windows computer for years until they kept changing operating systems and that awful ribbon menu.

Got a Mac instead and love it. Very simple operating system and no major confusing changes like I had with MS.

Also got LastPass password manager and got the premium version ($12/year) and love it. But I also keep a hard copy of all user names, passwords, security questions, credit card info, customer support numbers, etc., and put these on a flash drive in case the computer ever crashes.

For added security, never give the correct answer to security questions. For instance, much common information about you such as birthplace, high school, etc. can easily be found by a good hacker. So use unusual places or words instead.

Highly recommend the above and also using strong passwords. If you don't use a password manager which can create passwords for you, then try a site like this Passwords to suggest a strong one. And use a different password for each banking and credit card or financial website.

I use LastPass because of a recommendation from my son-in-law, a computer nerd. However, this one sounds interesting. The main thing is these save you a lot of time when logging in.

But I cannot emphasize enough typing up a hard copy. I use a tables format and keep all relevant information such as those security questions you can never remember or the credit card numbers, expiration dates and that code on the back. Or their customer support number in case I lose the card.

Then I do up form fills for each credit card or any site where I need to fill in information such as petitions, etc.

The hard copy is saved on a flash drive and updated periodically. This copy is kept in a small notebook I use when I make online purchases, as the information is right at my fingertips. Sometimes the form fills don't always fill in the correct expiration dates on some of my cards, so the hard copy is used in these situations. The other reason is that I'm older, and I wanted my children to have availability to this information if they ever need to access my computer in an emergency situation.

I ran into the same issue and unfortunately couldn't locate the paper with my password noted down. I tried reset my live password via https://account.live.com/ResetPassword.aspx, but unable to receive the code as the phone number is out of update. In the end I used a boot media and it helped switch my account to a local user, and I could then log on my computer.
