Cannot start Malwarebytes with W10

I periodically run Malwarevytes on my Dell desktop but I started noticing that it would not start at all. I tried double clicking from the desktop and thru the Start Menu.

I uninstalled it and then went to Cnet to reinstall it. The installation breezed thru fine but I still cannot get it to run.

Is anyone with W10 having this issue? TIA, Luis

PS - I also have SuperAntiSpyware Free Edition 6.0.1244 installed. It can refresh itself and works/scans fine... with no issues detected. Not sure if these two may be butting heads all of the sudden but they have been installed in this PC for years with no issues. so far... ;o)

PS - I am using the free/home version. I understand that the newly installed one will revert back to the free version after a while if I choose not to pay when the time comes.

I'm not a tech, just a user, and a Linux user at that so take this with a grain of salt.

What I might try...

The Malwarebytes clean removal tool (mbam-clean.exe) from the Malwarebytes official site: https://forums.malwarebytes.com/topic/122284-mbam-clean-removal-process/

(Just in case there are pieces of the old install not being removed that are conflicting with the new install.)

Like I say though, I'm just a user suggesting what I might do. You might want to wait for someone more qualified, although I wouldn't think the removal tool would hurt anything.

I'm assuming you've rebooted since the reinstall?

If you're still with me. I ran the REVO uninstaller. Went to Filehippo and downloaded the MBAM (before I restartd the computer, sorry). It restarted after download but now MBAm cannot be recognized in the folder. I get this message: The Name 'C:\Program Files\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware\MBAM.exe' specified in thetarget box is not valid. Make sure the path & file name are correct. The original MBAM icon on the desktop is there and it is also listed in the list of programs but none of these can be installed or run. Should I run REVO again, that would be my guess but I'm good at confusion, my best feature.

Have you tried downloading it from the actual Malwarebytes site? If not, here's the site. https://www.malwarebytes.org/downloads/ Try downloading it without removing the first corrupted version and see if that works. There was a replacement for the first program update [issued on 4-1-14] and according to my own download files, it was issued on 4-6-14. The actual build was 4-3-14. The latest version is 2.0.1.1004 If you have no luck with my advice...I strongly suggest that you contact Malwarebytes directly through their website. I can tell you from personal experience that they are wonderful people to do business with and always eager to assist. I should add that I have the paid version of Malwarebytes but that shouldn't make any difference with their help. Many moons ago I started out with the free version and went on from there. HTH Anne

I do not know what is going on but you appear to have a windows installer problem, this problem usually occurs during the installation of the printer, please take a look at the link provided but don't do anything yet. Do you have the disk that came with the printer? When did you install the printer? What appears to be going on is when you reboot the (windows installer) is trying to install the printer or something and it's asking for the disk -- I have no clue why. If you have the disk What we could do is to reinstall the printer software from disk. Yes I have rebooted. I also have both products installed in a different W10 PC, a laptop, and that one is not experiencing issues. Just a comment to point out why this is so weird...

I would uninstall and then DL again and install making sure it's the Free version, I have N/P's with it on W10 on all of my home PC's. Oh and P.S. turn off other AVI's etc. before DL so nothing interferes with MB install.

By default, they install the version that has all the bells and whistles/options and after "x" weeks, you end with the free version if you decide not to pay.

Actually it's 14 days then it reverts to the Free Basic version. I just now mins ago DL Malewarebytes on DH's LT and noticed they made a few changes or updated their look. but still the same, he's running a scan now.

I uninstalled Malwarebytes, turned off SuperAntiSpyware, downloaded the mbam-clean-2.3.0.1001.exe file, clicked run and got the error "Unspecified error". Am I doing something wrong?

I just ran their setup in win10 Enterprise, a fall release build that will be out next month. The install screwed up ... asked to restart, seemed to hesitate after I ok'd the restart and came up with a error sound before login & then this message on the desktop; I'm not going to screw with it.. there is some problem apparently with Malwarebytes - I just uninstalled it and it seems to uninstall OK.

You're working with an older version of Malwarebytes that did have problems with Windows installations. I believe it's no longer available for downloading. It was replaced with this current version...free for 14 days...Premium 3 and is available at this website. Try installing it and see if your problems are eliminated. .

Using a highly rated security program is a better approach and protection requires no user invention. By doing so, neither Super Anti Spyware nor Malwarebytes will likely be needed. It's not like having these run are essential or even needed for a properly protected machine.

If you're not using a best in class program, uninstall what you have plus these two , pick just one of the top three rated programs on this list of independent test results shown in the link below, and be happy.
