Kitchen back splash and counter tops
Comments (2)Hi rknee, thanks for showing the pictures of your beautiful kitchen, the tile back splash, that I really liked was the Etched Field Blend, what a beautiful tile. Your kitchen is going to look fantastic when it's all done....See MoreCounter-top Advice for old outdated farm kitchen
Comments (4)You need to do some homework. Every material has it's pros and cons, and it all comes down to what you are willing to live with. "Best" is completely subjective. Frankly, if my DH had not felt so strongly about our using a "higher end" counter top (we ended up with engineered quartz) I would have done a laminate. They are durable, warm, soft, and very inexpensive. Completely low-maintenance if you are not careless about using them. Our quartz will be fine, and looks fantastic, but we spent nearly three times what we could have spent on a high-end laminate. IKEA has some DIY laminate for incredibly little cost if you are willing to put in the effort and will buy you plenty of time to do some research on your countertop options. Comments (3)I guess I'm saying I don't love the look of cherry cabs with golden slate. If you do that's great, but google images of it first. Here is a kitchen with that combo. I think it's ghastly....you may love it. To me it looks like a jeans suit. Contrast between the cabs and floor, cabs and counters, just enough to draw your eye, makes for a much more harmonious space in my opinion. the issue with going light for the counter tops is that other than Thassos marble (that I wouldn't recommend here - or any marble in your space) there aren't any light stones that really aren't yellow too, or slightly pink. Including limestone. If you love the material, choose limestone for the floor and counters. But if you're sticking with the golden slate from the golden state... I'd probably go dark if only to have it look less busy....See MorePlease, some advice about raising kitchen countertop 2 inches
Comments (15)We raised all our counters (kitchen and bathrooms) by 3" for our tall family. It's so much easier on my back when I'm making a big meal (eg holidays) and my son (6'6") and daughter (6'1") especially love their bathrooms. We did custom cabinets so we didn't just raise the toe kick or use a crown under the counter; we have larger cabinets so we have a bit more storage. The DW sits on a small platform, which is hidden by the toe kick. I've never been one to think too much about resale, because you can't second guess what someone else will want. However, now that my house is on the market I'm getting some pushback that some people don't like the high counters (esp. in the kids' bathrooms.) I've had 12 good years with my high counters so I'd do it again but wanted to tell you what I'm hearing. (To be honest I'm surprised because my grandma had standard counters and never complained, and she was 4'11"! I'm 5'11" and only raised mine by 3" to 39"; most people are taller than my grandma was so I feel like the counters should be fine for almost anyone.)...See MoreLVasquez
