Advice wanted on attractive baby items
Comments (29)Well, anything that can't be used after the baby can roll over may have a very short lifespan. My daughter rolled over at 4 weeks, 4 days. One of my strategies was just to do without a bunch of baby gear. I never had a changing table of any kind. My kids have been the kind to flop and flail from an early age so the floor seemed safer to me anyway. I never had an exersaucer or a jumper. The bouncy and the swing were both gone by the year mark. We never used a pack n play at our house and I borrowed one on the rare occasion I needed it for overnights elsewhere. As to strollers, I highly recommend the stroller forum at the Baby Bargains Board and/or Strollerqueen's reviews. For true running, it is hard to beat a fixed wheel Bob. But you absolutely should not run with a baby before six months to a year--think shaken baby syndrome. You also cannot use a Bob, even walking, with a newborn because they don't recline completely flat. You can use an infant carseat adapter, but it is not good to leave a baby in an infant seat for long stretches, both because of flat spot concerns and because the infant seats restrict breathing. Bobs are also heavy, don't fold very small and can't do parent facing (again except when using an infant car seat). So there are trade offs. This is a great example of function totally trumping any aesthetic concerns when it comes to baby gear. Now course, the stroller doesn't have to live in the house for most people as it can be stored in the garage or car. As far as cleaning,I would look for reviews or inspect an item in person to ascertain that rather than relying on product promotional materials. There are some YouTube videos for baby gear--baby gizmo I think?...See MoreAnyone Here Remember Baby Sage? Her Grandmother Posted Here
Comments (142)I can't believe no one has mentioned "Doggie"!!He wasn't around long I think Spike banned him over something...I just remember when his wife came in and posted that he had passed away suddenly...He wrote the most incredible poem...I'll share it with ya... "Doctor Time" When we lose a loved one and we're in despair Doctor Time is already there He's treating us all, we're unaware When our loved one is gone and on their way Doctor Time helps us move on day to day He treats the anger, grief and sorrow with a medicine he calls "Tomorrow" As the days, weeks and months go by we just look back and wonder why Such a beautiful person had to die But deep inside we feel okay We have lived to see another day He's calmed the anger, grief and sorrow, we took the medicine he calls "Tomorrow" Doctor Time has one thing to say Time heals all wounds day by day I remember he posted this poem to someone's post who had lost a loved one and he died shortly thereafter......See MoreHit a Deer - $$$
Comments (16)Sounds like an awful experience, jemdandy. I'm glad you were uninjured. We have deer in my neighborhood too and I dislike having them around. They're a nuisance - eating ornamental plants, carrying (and dropping) ticks, and creating road danger for motorists (and for the deer). The reduction of natural predators on the edge of inhabited areas has allowed deer populations to grow too high. Perhaps some day a viable and inexpensive contraceptive means will be available to humanely limit populations without having to cull or euthanize living animals. Note, a friend of mine just had an accident. Even though he was at fault, his insurance coverage provided for 20 days of rental car reimbursement. He got a check in the mail from his agent 3 days after the accident for $1000 (50 X 20) - you perhaps have that coverage too and could have resorted to using a rental car for your trip if your car hadn't been serviceable or if you'd wanted to accelerate its repair....See MoreBaby shower!
Comments (27)Update: just had the shower today and it went great! Thank you for all the advice and encouragement. Mostly family and three childhood friends. It was nice to see friends she had known for 25 years. I also contacted some of sister's best friends from the city she just moved from and they sent video messages. No adult beverages due to being family (mostly teetotalers). Although I didn't specify potluck, every single human who walked through the door had a plate of food in her hands so the sideboard was groaning. Soooo much food. My favorite baker is just ending mat leave so I got some lovely cakes and cookies from her lavander honey and raspberry earl grey cakes from gateaux rose We did play two games in a nod to my mom who looooves games. One was he said she said, guess which prospective parent said which phrase, and one was price is right. Both non embarrassing, quick and optional. I also made a onesie banner which was a hit. I forgot to take a photo of the finished product but it was paper onesies spelling out yay baby! in the end it was a nice way to welcome sister back to our province and make her feel surrounded and supported by family. our big present (stroller and car seat) has been stranded at the airport depot for two days :( the impending mail strike here has the courier services overloaded and in disarray....See MoreOutsidePlaying
