Help me find a cheaper alternative to this tile! ABB...
Comments (9)Browneyes - we've been looking at AKDO's Stagger in Parchment. Found here: http://www.akdo.com/products_detail_coll.asp?pid=4905&collid=108&subcollid= It's pretty much what we like, but the narrowest strip in AKDO's tile is a bit narrower than we hoped for. When I emailed Susan, I told her what we saw that we liked and what we were hoping to find that would be different from what we've seen. She seemed to feel that she could help. Right now, on Susan's site, she is featuring a "We have curved milk glass tile, as seen on Houzz" photo, so hopefully there's a good chance you'll have some luck with her. I used the email found on her site here: http://www.susanjablon.com/contacts It's: Customer.Service@SusanJablon.com I got some samples from Glass Tile Oasis and while they were fine, I wasn't finding anything that was quite right for us...may search there a little more if Susan doesn't work out....See MoreX-Post - Please Critique My Lighting Plan!
Comments (8)Sorry guys & girls - was away for a few days and just now catching up. Renovator8 - the lighting will be 4" recessed cans with the newest model of Feit retrofit kits (My research confirmed this new model has surpassed the CREE CR4's I was originally planned on using). 94+ CRI, 2700K light color - and CostCo rebranded a ton of them and is currently offering them at 1/2 price of what they sell for in Home Depot. (Identical model # and everything) Casey - Thanks for the comment as the coiffured ceilings were one of "my things" I had to have. I get my coiffured ceilings in the living/library and she gets her Victoria + Albert freestanding soaking tub with chandelier in the marble bathroom so I think it was a fair trade... Regardless, a lot of this wouldn't have been done if I wasn't in the real estate industry and was paying "retail prices" as a buyer with no control over the build process. (It's amazing some of the markups). Carol - we do have an "idea" of a layout for the Great Room and that's a good idea, i'll figure out a way to post it and see what feedback I get. Great suggestions on the curtains as well. Thanks - I hope these threads are helping you as much as they are me as we both go through this process! Comments (14)rebeccamomof123 your floors are lovely. If you like the way your floors look, I wouldn't have them refinished now. You know now that when the time comes you'll have to completely refinish them, but there's no reason you have to rush into it since they obviously are in good shape. I'd stop using the steam mop and Murphy's and start using the damp microfiber mop. We had oak floors refinished in our last house and I used Bona and the occasional steam mop. After 6 years, the satin poly was starting to wear thin in a few spots. Our new hardwood floors are waiting to be installed right now and I don't plan to ever use the steam mop on them!...See MoreABB in new-to-me modern house
Comments (37)However, I am concerned that in the actual space it might not work as well because of how light and open the rest of the space is - i think it would draw the eye to the backsplash as too much of a contrasting focal point. Does that make sense? Yes it does make sense but I disagree that it will happen. In fact a light or white backsplash will create more of a contrasting focal point than the darker one. Why? Because our eye is automatically drawn to the lightest area and since it's between two darker areas (the upper and lower cabinets, it will become the focal point.) By using a darker color, it will tie it all together and will NOT become the focal point. It is just the opposite of what you're thinking. :) Do an experiment. Squint at the second photo that chicagoans posted. The one with the gorgeous dark backsplash. Notice how the backsplash tends to blend into the cabinets so your eye isn't drawn to the backsplash? Now try the same experiment with the third one chicagoans posted, the one with the glass. Notice how now your eye is drawn to the glass and not the "whole"? Then try it with some of the others....See MoreUser
