Need help burning a file to a CD-R disk.

Running Win 10. Where do I go for good how-to instructions on w 10 tasks?

Any advice will be greatly appreciated.

The only one I have used was Ashampoo. It was satisfactory.

One file? Unless it's a HUGE video or audio file...probably not the best use to burn a CD for it. Maybe a flash drive would be better? Just a guess. YMMV.

Coho, I posted on the other thread before I saw this. Several years ago, I purchased a computer that had Norton installed. I could not burn a DVD on that computer until after I removed every trace of Norton. When I called Tech support at Norton, they told me that it was a known problem, and sent me a refund check. That was many years ago however, and I wouldn't think they would still be having that problem.

Turbo tax gives you the option of saving your final tax forms (everything used to file, including all the schedules) as a PDF. It also saves the information in a proprietary file format, with a .tax extension. Which of these are you trying to open? The .tax file requires Turbo tax to open and the .pdf requires a program that can open pdf files.

CDs are used for storage but executable files can be ran from them - all you programs are loaded via the CD/DVD. Yes, all files burned to CD become read only and if you copy any back to your hard drive you will need to change the name if you intend to modify the file. I know nothing about re-writable CDs but I would suggest you erase everything when wiping it. Do not apologise for asking seemingly basic questions, asking is learning.

Many thanks for your reply yosemitebill. I now understand but I hadn't realised that the mp3 files became uncompressed in the CDA format (this is the first time I've attempted this sort of thing). Thank you once again.

No added software needed, Windows will do it. It's a simple Copy and Paste operation within WIndows Explorer.

Open
Windows Explorer. Put the blank CD into the drive and close it - it
will appear as an available drive, Often D or E. In Explorer, go to the
folder containing the file you want on the CD. Highlight it in the right
pane with a right click and choose Copy. Then go to the CD drive, left
click to highlight it, and then right click to choose Paste. Voila,
you're done.

You might get asked what kind of CD you want, and choose Audio CD or Data CD, as appropriate for the file type.

CDs
have capacity of about 700 megs, or .7 GB. Thumb drives normally start
at 4 GB (ie, the smallest is nearly 6X a blank CD) and then the sizes
increase in exponential powers of 2 - ie, 4, 8, 16, 32, etc.
