Have You Ever Had to Decide Between Your Job or Your Sanity?
Comments (18)First of all I want to Thank you all from the bottom of my heart for your advice & compassion. I have been very stressed over all of this and I could feel the genuine concern you have for our situation. Just to fill in a few blanks, we are both now 56 yo. DH has his BA & MBA & a certified Project Manager. He worked AND went to school at same time. I'm afraid I am lacking in the educational department. I have 2 AA degrees in nothing marketable, & got my RE License about a month(2006) before the market started crashing-but left because of my DM deteriorating health at the time. But, actually I was the main caregiver for both of my parents from 2001 until 2007 in our home until they both passed. Dad had cancer & Mom had Alzheimer/dementia. About 2 months after my DM died (Dec '07) I started babysitting(Feb'08) for my 2 granddaughters until just this past November '09, when I started working part-time again. Can't believe I did the formula, diapers, potty-training all over again, but my girls were a good distraction from my grief. My DS & DDIL paid when the could, what they could,--most of the time, not at all, but I just wanted to help them out & make sure the girls were safe with me. It was never about the income, it was all about what was best for my GDD's. Last summer I looked into a local university here & wanted to start school to get a Gerontoloy Certificate ( would take 18 months) & eventually work in Hospice & for seniors. (Heck, I am a senior now too according to Bob Evans--lol) I guess I am just destined to be a caregiver all my life. I started the application process & was told I would probably be eligible for Finacial Aid, but I think working Full Time has to be my priority now. I've been brainstorming to think of any additional means of bringing in some income--like maybe renting out the in-law quarters of our home. Selling off some jewelry--only about $200.00 worth, but every bit has to help. We're down to 1 car which we "juggle". Right now, everything just seems up in the air. We might know more by this week-end, when either my DH's project goes well or comes crashing down & him with it. I am preparing for the crash down, because in the past few weeks, anything that could go wrong, has gone wrong. Like servers going down for hours, connection problems etc. One manager just walked off the job, because he said he couldn't take the pressure anymore. So, Thank you, thank you, thank you, all for taking the time just to let me talk/write about this & for listening. I know there are those here with far worse problems (health etc) & my problems are miniscule compared to theirs, but I thank you again for your suggestions & support. God Bless ~~ katclaws...See MoreHave you had your home appraised?
Comments (49)The reason I'm confused is because people refinance ALL the time to lower their rates and these days, it's pretty unusual to see a prepayment penalty. I'm not saying it's wrong, it's entirely dependent on the type of loan you did, but just to be sure, I would double check your note to confirm a prepayment penalty clause is there and what the terms are. Refinancing is not a small deal and requires a specific expertise. If this man is lying and/or not doing his job, I would have a very difficult time trusting him with our financing. I might even be inclined to have a word with his manager and insist that a different loan agent be assigned to us. This is a little off topic, but figured I'd share anyways, but when I arranged for the loan to purchase our house, the loan rep kept trying to push us into an adjustable rate mortgage. I kept telling him no and insisted we wanted a fixed rate, 30 year mortgage only. On the day we went to sign docs we did it at the office of the Title Company. They get their instructions from the lender ie the loan rep and when they handed me the note to sign, it was for a 30 year Adjustable Rate Mortgage! I know from experience, that based on the conversations a borrower has with their loan rep, they trust the documents are accurate and they'll sign whatever is put in front of them without so much as a glance at what they're signing. And with us at least, the copies we were sent when the origination began, were for a fixed mortgage. Yet if it ends up being wrong at signing, the bank will tell you, you should have read what you were signing, and you are stuck. The commission for an Adjustable Rate mortgage was higher than that of a fixed rate loan and that Loan Rep was banking we wouldn't catch it. Well I did and I was really upset and made them redraw the docs. Since then, I've heard several times that the same thing happened to others in our area who had financed with that company which was a very large industry leader at the time. I can't say I feel bad that they are now defunk!...See MoreWould you prune your neighbor's trees branches off your property?
Comments (69)We talked to 4 lawyers today, and they ALL said his lawsuit would be considered frivolous, and that his case would be thrown out. And none of them believe he will actually go through with suing us. One of them called the xmas guy an idiot for even considering suing. One lawyer said our case would be a "simple" matter to handle, only one day of work @ $750. I talked to him at length. Basically, he would say to dismiss the case against us since we made an agreement with the property owner, and if the son had any theoretical agreement it would only be with his parents. But I know this guy, and I have no doubt he will still sue us. We bought security cameras last night. They're expensive! Holy cow! Xmas guy was outside and walked to the property's edge and made a spectacle of himself watching dh put the backyard camera up. If he was trying to intimidate dh it did not work. Xmas guy also came over this morning and measured the tree trunks of only 5 trees, because the other trees are totally on our property. He didn't measure the tree lengths which I found surprising. He did take pictures. We just barely missed him, as we were outside 20 minutes before him measuring the lengths of the trees and taking more pics. We screen-grabbed his facebook page; he sells them for $6 a foot. 2 of the trees we cut were only 3.5ft tall! The others were around 7-8ft. What does he think he's going to get? Even if we pretend he's the property owner, then we would at least be entitled to half the value of the trees since 50% of each of the trunks was on our land. He would get less than $100 total. He'd be a schmuck for suing. One last thing, I talked to the building inspector this morning and he said xmas guy called him late last night (Sunday!) and screamed at him, and that he had to listen to xmas guy even though he was out of town visiting family. He said xmas guy doesn't have a case and not to worry. That's all I can update for now. Thank you for "listening". It means a lot. I was up all night last night worrying about being sued....See MoreHave you ever needed a better house for your Instagram feed?
Comments (14)I am somewhat surprised to see that the influencers are not using their own lives to peddle influence, but rather making up stories no differently from the Mad men of yore creating Betty Crocker out of the blue. In my neck of the woods Williams-Sonoma, et al are always on the prowl for locations to shoot their catalogues. They pay home owners handsomely, I am told. They totally empty out the rooms they use, refilling them with their own merchandise and props. That seems very different from the IG situation where there is a person starring in the story, implying to my mind that the pictures they share represent their lives. At any rate there are some IG I really like and I am always amazed at how linked some of the people are on the various feeds. Here are three of my favorites individual IGs. I don't think any of these women is an influencer. None appear to be selling anything. This one is an American woman, married to an Englishman, living in Zurich. https://www.instagram.com/elizabethdemontfortwalker/?hl=en This is a French woman who shows us her life in Paris and the countryside, around Limoges. https://www.instagram.com/fehrenbachsophie/?hl=en This is an American woman, Maura Endres, in New Jersey. I learned about her from the L Bern blog. https://www.instagram.com/m.o.endres/?hl=en...See Moreken_adrian Adrian MI cold Z5
