Koko Loko/Soul Sister and suggestions?
Comments (3)Thank you Kristine. :-) The Lady Emma is for a purple and orange bed we've been working on. We did plant both a Twilight Zone and Ebb Tide in that bed about a month ago. I thought we were going to lose the Ebb Tide, but we just had a tiny first flower open. This first bloom is much smaller and more fuchsia than I think we will have when the plant eventually matures, but the scent is fab for such a tiny flower/plant. I'm planning to place Gold Badge beside a climbing Iceberg and Golden Celebration to create a hedge. In front of this we planted a Rainbow Happy Trails, and I'm thinking there's space there for several shorter perennials and another groundcover rose or two. Wanting to stick with the yellows, whites and touches of pink in this bed. And Koko? Golly. lol I have no idea. It's just been calling my name since I saw pictures of it on this forum. I finally convince my husband it was one we needed. I'll probably put it in a pot for now. That way I can move it around until we figure out a permanent home. I've read so many wonderful reviews of Roses Unlimited and I'm looking forward to ordering from them. We had been looking for an own root Lady Emma since the spring and I was very happy to see they have her....See MoreSoul Sister & a few others today
Comments (18)Kristine- Thanks! :-) Actually I think looking at that Munstead picture again that it just looks bigger than it really is because of the perspective/angle? I'm guessing it's about 4" across. but that's a total guess. Karen- Thanks! :-) I had to talk my husband in to Headliner. He just wasn't sure, but now loves it. Al and I both reeeeally like smelly roses. ;-) I find Headliner to be slightly fragrant. We certainly enjoy it more for the sharp contrast of the pure white and dark pink more than the fragrance. The reasons I love it are much the same as why I absolutely adore Love Song eventhough it has no fragrance to me at all. Lisa- Thanks! :-) I agree about Love Song. It has plugged right along this summer. It did bloom less when the weather was the hottest, but the blooms were still beautiful and big. And truthfully it took me a while to figure out what "fried" by the heat meant. I thought that roses we had with icky blooms were all damaged by Japanese Beetles for awhile. lol That makes sense to me about Soul Sister and full sun/shade. We have it in one of the spots in the yard that recieves the most sun, probably at least 9 hours. I'm also really happy with the overall shrub shape. It's not throwing out wonky long spider legs or growing lopsided. But... then I'm not really sure how much of that kind of thing depends on the person caring for it. ;-) Patty- Thanks so much! :-) I agree. I'm kicking myself that I didn't bring one of those darling birdies home. May have to drag Al back up there this weekend. ;-)...See More2019 Roses Unlimited Sale (June 3 - 19)
Comments (96)Another fun comparison: Left: RU, Distant Thunder, Own Root, I’ve had it about 1 month. This plant had the thinnest stems of the three, also had smaller root ball than the K&M. Very healthy, put out a lot of new growth Middle: Wayside, Molineaux, Bare Root, Dr Huey, also had it about a month. By far the thickest stems, but of course being bare root had to grow new feeder roots. Good progress, there’s even a bud. Right: K&M, Buxom Beauty ,Fortuniana, just arrived today. Thicker stems than the RU rose, also had a very dense rootball. Was trimmed short significantly to fit in packing box so most of the mature foliage is gone, but lots of new growth remains, even 2 buds. I’m very happy with all three providers, and thankful that I’m able to get hard-to-find varities in mid summer in great health!...See MoreSoul sister rose review
Comments (6)BenT: it does remind me of Lady of Shallot.. seems like SS grows well in container.. I am out of ground space. With our humidity, blackspot has been a problem lately. Kristine: Good to know that it is not drooping much.. any fragrant?...See Morebethnorcal9
