need help choosing sink color need to order asap! (pic)
Comments (9)I had a similar situation in my kitchen with a dark golden brown countertop and a Silgranit sink. I went with the Cafe Brown color even though nothing else in my kitchen was brown and the trim was all white because the sink blended with the counters better. I love it. I think you'd be really happy with the black for that reason. Also, my dark sink really does hide stains, discoloration, etc. I almost fear ever returning to a white sink!...See MorePics in post of cabinets. Help! Need to select a cabinet color ASAP
Comments (25)Looks beautiful! Did you paint them yourself? Were they sprayed or brushed? I'm thinking about painting ours but it seems daunting since we have a large kitchen like yours....See MoreNeed help ASAP w/ whether to add pantry to kitchen area
Comments (9)Thanks for all the input, everyone! After taking your ideas and those of our builder and friends/family into account, husband and I ultimately decided to leave the plan as is. We figured the bigger room size will make the space more functional, whether as a dining room, playroom or office. Fingers crossed for a good pantry cabinet design! bpathome, I love the idea of storage banquette in the breakfast area! Had never thought of it but it seems perfect. Not only will it give us extra storage but I think it will allow us to have the table slightly off-center (so as to allow more clearance for the door to the back deck) without looking odd. I'm thinking maybe even a large L-shaped banquette, going under both sets of windows and into corner. I've attached a pic, which is dark (waited until framers left so wouldn't be in the way) but might give a better idea of the breakfast area space. The windows to right will be same sizes as those to left--framers just hadn't trimmed all the OSB yet. ILoveRed, we started with a stock plan as inspiration but needed some changes due to our lot, local regulations, etc. So, we drew out some changes on the original stock plan and had a local draftsman draw the full plans. It is not perfect (had issues with stair placement and a measurement was off on garage) and I wish we'd gone the extra mile and had an architect modify it for us but our builder is great and so far has worked around the issues. Thanks again everyone!...See MoreNeed help choosing a paint colour for kitchen cabinets
Comments (8)I did not paint my oak cabinets for many reasons - one of which is I've seen a lot of painted over previously finished cabinets five years down the road and not been impressed. Also, I just prefer the warmth of the wood. However, if your cabinets are in poor shape anyway, you haven't much to lose. I prefer the mossy green to keep the kitchen tone "warm", but none of your colors will make the countertops look better - sorry. Your wall paint should come last. It is the easiest thing to change, so get the cabinets right first. Should you choose to put your budget to countertops instead, they and the backsplash will affect wall paint color. Computer monitors often show colors poorly. On mine, your wall color looks too cool for the wood and the paint color possibilities. The farmhouse style is more than the color of the cabinets. As has been noted, may newer kitchens are coming out in wood in a similar style, but with a movement back to warmer colors - the cool white and gray is not as popular as it used to be. You will want to study the kitchens you like for the "extra" features - some which you could easily add to your kitchen - for example, a more decorative range vent/hood. Consider removing all the cabinetry above the range and getting a stainless vent that truly vents to the outside if the present one does not. You might add a small amount of open shelving primarily for decor. Look at how cabinets with glass doors are styled. Your home has some craftsman features - look at craftsman kitchens also for some ideas. I retrofitted a plate rail in a cabinet. I also got a "short apron" apron front sink that could be installed on a standard sink base cabinet. Look for features that are less a particular "style" and more evoke a feel that a 1924 house would have - warm, cozy, simple. Maybe not your style - but my refreshed oak kitchen: https://www.houzz.com/photos/my-pics-work-in-progress-phvw-vp~110720042 https://www.houzz.com/photos/my-pics-work-in-progress-phvw-vp~109854029...See Morecarmer90
