help! need to select counter top and sink/faucet asap
Comments (2)I am having a lot of anxiety over this area and am really hoping for some guidance from all the experienced and gifted posters out there - please! We decided on absolute black honed for the counter - now need to decide the thickness. This dining room butler's pantry in the expanded dining room was suppose to appear like 2 independent furniture pieces. KD's goal was nothing like a kitchenette (or the adjacent kitchen) so he did not want 10 feet of a counter - hence the brown "china cabinet" piece steps back from the black "buffet counter" BUT he also planned for the counter heights to be different. The china cabinet has a thick (almost 4") of a wood slab between base and uppers. And he planned for 2 cm for the buffet. I know it is hard from these pictures (I'll try to get by there to get better ones today) but if we use 2 cm granite as recommended by the KD there will be only like 3/4 of an inch difference. If we use 3cm it could be shimmed up slightly to line up with the base of the routed edge on the dining room piece and seem in line. I don't want the 2cm to look like a mistake - a just miss BUT if the design with the step back already commits us to "mismatch" pieces I don't want to do it half way. HELP. I am at the end of a long line of too many decisions and just want this done and moving forward. Any help, suggestions, questions etc. would be GREATLY appreciated....See MoreHELP needed asap with roof color selection
Comments (15)THANK YOU very much for the input and confirming that the Burnt Sienna was not a good idea. We are going to go with the Colonial Slate. The shingles have not been ordered yet, so not a problem. We called our sales agent, and DH will send a fax. Obviously, this is a decision we'd have to live with for a very long time. Plus, if we eventually change the exterior colors (but won't be painting the brick) the slate will match pretty much anything else we choose. Some neighbors have used a light sage-y green on their trim, and I'd really like that, too. At least that's a few years off, though....See MoreNeed help selecting kitchen cabinet paint colors!
Comments (27)Your friend should tell you which stone yards he/she works with so you can go look at the slabs (with a cabinet door with you to hold up against them) and take home samples of the ones you like to see in your lighting. Given the warm tones in the cabinets and floor, creams or warmer whites would probably be better than cool/stark whites or grays. Unless you want to go dark - then a black would work well too. It all depends on what your style is, the colors you like, and what you are looking to achieve. Do some googling and searching on here - warm wood kitchens - and see what you like and strikes your fancy. While getting ideas from pictures is great to steer you in a general direction, slabs vary greatly in person so you MUST see everything in person or run the risk of being hugely disappointed in what you get vs. what you *thought* you were getting. https://www.google.com/search?q=oak+cabinets+with+granite&client=safari&hl=en-us&prmd=isvn&source=lnms&tbm=isch&sa=X&ved=2ahUKEwjCyZLZ_eDfAhXIwlQKHd_jDnwQ_AUoAXoECAwQAQ&biw=375&bih=544...See Morebulkhead and cabinet crown help needed ASAP please
Comments (10)It is honestly my fault for not realizing that I was getting double crown (crown at cabinet and at ceiling), although I wasn't told there would be 3" bulkhead extending past the cabinet crown. Apparently, that how they do the double crown. Right now, the bulkhead is framed, no cabinets so its not like you can see the bulkhead extending past. I was wondering if anyone had a picture of something like or could tell me what I want instead, lol. The cabinet crown molding is in with the cabinets I guess from the manufacturer, and if I want a different molding I would have to reorder from the cab manuf, have him redo the framing, etc. I just don't know what I want! And yes, I need the bulkhead because of venting or something, but I also wanted a way to extend the cabs up to the ceiling. The framing for the bulkhead is 10" tall and 30" depth above my counter depth area (for pantry and fridge) and like 18" above the regular uppers and vent hood....See MoreRelated Professionals
