What does a 'neutral tinting base' do?
Comments (3)ok, well just wondering. Faron, you said: * "ONE COAT" from a Neutral base?!?!? Only if you apply it 1/2" thick! Well, this was a charity version of Martha Stewart's one coat neutral base. "* Seriously, these bases/colors ALMOST ALWAYS need the help of a tinted primer (often Gray), to look good after 2 FULL topcoats applied ~5 hours apart." Could you explain please? But anyway, I'll just get rid of the neutral base because I'm hoping to paint in a light yellow/beige type thing. "Some Ralph-Lauren Burgundies take the auto-tinter over a minute to pump all the colorant in!! 14 ounces of it sometimes!" Well, this is Martha Stewart and I looked in the can and wanted to see what color it was, I swirled it around with a stick and nothing came up for a while, FINALLY something whitish came up, but I guess I won't mess with it. Thanks for reply. And oh yes, while we're at it: what would happen if I added this base to a can of colored paint?...See MoreHelp me jazz up my tenant's apartment!
Comments (36)Hi, I'm a Realtor, been going into other people's houses for a number of years, did a bit of property management, & here's what I've learned: Warm tones go with warm tones, & cool with cool. Bright white goes through periods when everybody wants it, & then after they've cleaned it for a year or so, nobody wants it! Plus, if a white is too "clean", it'll make furnishings look dingy. It's a cool-to-cold color, not inviting at all. (Think laboratories.) Warm colors are more inviting & they'll harmonize with the warm golden & brown wood floors. The medium-light warm neutrals will go with most people's stuff, & they'll go with the floors. The kitchen has the potential to be very charming. You might get some ideas by searching for images of kitchens in the 1900's or the 1940's... but there again, warm neutrals will probably be better for a rental. If the budget will stretch to new kitchen flooring, you might get rid of that cold-looking gray & replace it with a good grade of vinyl (Congoleum used to have a product that will outlast us all) in a warm color & a "vintage" pattern, or even install those linoleum squares like you see in school cafeterias. They would look appropriate for the age of the building, you can move the fridge without tearing the flooring, & that stuff lasts forever....See MoreNatural stone primer/ granite 101 by stonegirl
Comments (25)Antartide quartzite slabs - do you know anything about this type of quartzite? I can't find information anywhere on line. The slabs show alot of mineral and have some sparkle; ranges in color from white/gray/tan to faint greens, blues and deep burgandy. Thanks....See MoreAPARTMENT KITCHEN UGLY
Comments (53)It’s an apartment; leave it in the condition in which you found it. Spend your hard earned dollars on furnishings and decor you can take with you. Kitchen towels, or a stand mixer if you bake, or a high-end toaster, or blender or whatever items you will enjoy using frequently, all can go with you and are a much better investment than improving someone else’s property. A high-quality oriental rug in a dark pattern would be stunning. It can be sent out for cleaning, and will last you decades. Spend the money on a higher-quality sofa, better cookware, nicer dishes, things that you enjoy every day, and can go with you into future spaces....See Morew0lley32
