Trivial Question: Do You Use Talcum Powder?
Comments (41)how apropos!! I am surprised they determined her asbestos exposure was due to her talcum powder use so many years ago... I guess they ruled out all other possible exposures...a lifetime exposes you to so much stuff!! she must have been a big powder user... and predisposed to the ca... but, I think it's a good thing limiting how many particles of 'stuff' you breathe in... even if you don't have issues with asthma, etc... I have often wondered about gymnasts and other athletes that use large quantities of rosin on a regular basis and breathe in the dust... the particles are probably larger than talcum powder, but still......See MoreNeed your opinion - service dog question
Comments (19)I really think you need basic obedience training. My dog is NOT a service animal. I take her to all sorts of places where dogs are allowed. My expectations are such for her and she is a pet. 1. Heel and stop and sit when I stop. 2. Walk on a loose leash without disturbing items or other people 3. Sit quietly when giving the command to do so while I am conducting business. 4. Not take food from anyone without my permission Sit at my feet at outdoor eating places without begging food from me much less anyone else. 5. We raised her to be bomb proof. She does not startle at sounds, fireworks, loud vehicles, beeping horns, firearms, thunder etc. Could she be trained to be a service animal? Maybe/maybe not. What I described above is basic obedience. But no matter how well behaved she is or will be she is not a service animal without being skilled in performing a specific TASK for a disability. Even a psychiatric service animal has to be able to do a TASK. It is not enough to be a feel good companion. The dog should alert to an anxiety attack for example but also be able to do something specific to address it. Just being there is emotional support, not service. Psychiatric Service Dog Training Like all assistance dogs, a psychiatric service dog is individually trained to do work or perform tasks that mitigate their handler's disability. Training to mitigate a psychiatric disability may include providing environmental assessment (in such cases as paranoia or hallucinations), signaling behaviors such as interrupting repetitive or injurious behaviors), reminding the handler to take medication, retrieving objects, guiding the handler form stressful situation , or acting as a brace if the handler becomes dizzy. Psychiatric Dogs are trained to: Assistance in a medical crisis Provide treatment related assistance Assistance in coping with emotional overload Perform security enhancement tasks Service animals can be playful and act as pets at home. I know plenty of people with service animals and they know when they are working or not. Even police dogs are often family pets at home when off duty. But that comes AFTER he is fully trained to perform his duties....See MoreOpinions and advice requested on tile job (Warning: lengthy)
Comments (27)I appreciate those who have stuck with me though this ordeal. I’m happy to report that the shower is done and I hope to never have to revisit this in my lifetime. I’ll let the next owner deal with tearing it out (that would make 3 times) and renovating to their taste. From this experience I’ve learned that my DH thinks I’m much too picky. Last week it got to the point that he was mad at the world and I was unfortunately the one who took the brunt of it. As I feared, he ended up in the hospital with chest pains and sky rocketing BP. I honestly think those 3 days took more out of me than when he had by-pass surgery while we were building this house. Wine is my friends. Grouting happened on Thursday and caulking on Friday. Plumber came Monday along with the painter. Today the shower doors were installed. I’m disappointed that I didn’t get my frameless door, but this is better than a shower curtain and more than half the price of the door I wanted. I’ll probably never take a shower or bath in this BR, so I’m okay with the result. And more importantly, DH is happy with the finished product. So I promised photos. Certainly not Houzz worthy, but it works. DS will be happy to have his BR back...See MoreI'd like your opinion about a settlement agreement
Comments (31)Update! I did dispute the charge with my credit card, and also messaged the company's CS about my reluctance to sign such a broad waiver of my rights when they were the ones that created this situation. They were quite adamant, over the course of 3 phone conversations (the CS rep kept checking with her supervisor), that unless I signed the release/waiver I would get no refund. I told them that I would not sign the waiver and would pursue the other options (file complaints with the attorney general & with the BBB, and continue to dispute the charge). I contacted my bank's credit dispute desk again to ask them about this demand for a waiver of my rights, and they advised me to not engage with the company any further. A few days later, I also posted an update to my original online review, detailing my interactions with the company including the terms of the release/waiver that they wanted me to sign in order to be refunded for my missing carpet and the overcharge for installation. Amazingly, the next morning I received both a phone message and an email telling me that "after much deliberation" the company has decided to grant me my refund without requiring me to sign the waiver. I haven't responded yet. I suspect that they will ask me to remove my negative review. I will call the bank again to see if they advise accepting this, or continue to allow VISA to deal with it. PS if anyone wants to know the name of this multi-state flooring chain, send me a PM. I would warn anyone against dealing with them. Most transactions go off smoothly, I expect, but I do still wonder if overestimating and overcharging is SOP for them and folks just don't realize that it has happened....See Moresandraville1
