Dog Breed and Breeder Advice Requested
Comments (44)Rescues get puppies ALL the time! It's breeding season down south and they are euthanizing entire litters every day. I just got a plea for a litter of what looks like purebred Labs that are going to be gassed in one of those rural death camps. I don't know where you live but the chances are that you can get something you will all be happy with as there are so many litters now. What concerns me is your price range. It's practically nothing to be honest and you won't find a breeder who will sell puppies for that unless they are a mill or just making a buck off their female. You need to drop the idea that you can train your dog to stay in the yard. It's not going to happen. The dog will stay until something catches his or her attention and then the dog will be off like a shot. They think on about the level of a 3-4 year old child and are very distractable and very likely to forget rules if they get excited. A friend lost her obedience trained Sheltie this way. Teddy had every obedience degree in the US and Canada but one day she took him out to get in the car, he saw something across the street and dashed in front of an oncoming car. Without a fence you absolutely can't trust a dog to stay in the yard. So, you end up having to tie them up to keep them safe. By the way, getting a puppy is taking a chance on a future dog. You can't really tell that much about a dog's personality as an adult by the way it is as a puppy. Like people, puppies change as they grow and today's peppy dog could end up being a couch potato and vice versa. Puppies are fun, messy, expensive, loud, exasperating and will love you to death. From your original description of what you wanted in a dog I was actually tempted to tell you that what you want is a pit bull. Your description fits my two to a T. ;)...See MoreSoliciting advice: Opinions and Photo shop request - backsplash
Comments (13)I think the idea of corbels with beadboard behind is interesting but it doesn't seem right for your kitchen. Your kitchen hits me as being very sleek and modern and I think those factors should be played up. It seems like corbels would be fighting the modern feel and would suit a more traditional or cottage/country kitchen better. If you're adding corbels to the cabinet to the right of the window, corbels will block the light from the window. I think if you look at the first photo you posted, you'll see what I mean. I really like the white uppers with the wood soffit. I think I'd just do the subway for the entire backsplash and I agree with Alexamorrie. Tile to the ceiling in the sink area and to the bottom of the hood at the cooktop. If you're intent on moving forward with the corbel and beadboard, maybe they could be propped with the smallest of finishing nails before a permanent install so you can live with it for a few days to make sure you like it. And you could then post those photos here so we can give you feedback....See MoreNeed opinions on (bad?) tile job
Comments (29)Metricpony. If the current sub can't fix the work they installed, I would consider someone else to do it right. I would imagine the builder will object to getting a new installer, but the bottom line is, you have to be happy with the finished product. I understand what Weedyacres said about putting waterproof membrane over green board and it being suitable, but I don't believe it's something that's going to last for years. There is no reason to rip out rows of tile, just to install a listello to make the job right. It should have been set up right to start with. This is just an installer that doesn't care how it ends up. Any professional would have done a lay out to make sure it falls with a full piece or a nice sized cut. Personally, if it were my house. It would all be removed and start over using cement board and an installer that cares about the work they do and the finished product....See MoreAdvice/Opinion on Induction stoves, particularly the Invisicook
Comments (92)I try to keep emphasising the the Inviscook shouldn't be your only cooktop. It won't bring a full pot of water to a boil at all. I have boiled up to 4 cups of water on it but much more is questionable. The issue is wattage. The 2 burner models have 1200 watts, 3+ burner models do have a 1500 watt burner, but that still isn't enough to heat up a large pot of pasta water to boiling. Our 3700 watt induction burner on our other cooktop does .The wattages make a huge difference in performance.. I have a 3 burner invisacook under Decton porcelain and a GE induction installed. The GE was damaged by the installers so I had only the Invisacook for a number of months The 1500 watt burner on the Invisacook could not bring a pasta pot of water to a boil, ,so I heated water to a boil in my electric teakettle and poured it into my pot. It took 2.5 kettles of water. The 1500 watt burner on the Invisacook could keep the water boiling though to cook the pasta.. I was thrilled when my GE was installed. The 3700 watt burner on that will bring a pasta pot of water to a boil in under 10 minutes. I do not boil more than 4 cups of water nor do I sear anything on the Invisacook. I also love my Le Creuset pans and my cast iron pans and you cannot use them on the invisacook. I do use my Invisacook often, because I love the location in my Island where I can actually be facing other people in my kitchen. When using my GE, my back is turned to everyone....See Morenhbaskets
