Front Door Mistake...
Comments (10)Thanks all - I am waiting on prices but I think it will a few hundred dollars more to replace the door rather than insert glass. Not a huge difference - but would also involve repainting and restaining so that might add a little more. This is by no means an expensive custom door - Therma Tru Fibercraft Mahagony or something like that. And we do live in the south naf_naf for what that's worth. (Other than the beautiful winter we have had :)) I have thought about the security issues and don't have any real concerns. It's a fairly rural, gated community - not that that is any insurance but minimal risk. Our current home has a large sidelight that makes it pretty easy to get into and I have been comfortable with that for 20 years....See MoreFront door privacy
Comments (5)Clear Contact paper can be used as a window film. Cut each piece slightly larger than the window pane. Spray a little soapy water on the window first, position the film, and use a piece of plastic, like an old gift card, as a squeegee to push all the air bubbles from under it. Dry the edges with a soft cloth and trim the excess with a razor....See MoreI need privacy!! front door nightmare!
Comments (13)I expected to see a door with more than 50% glass when I read your title and intro blurb!! I doubt anyone is THAT interested in your goings on that they would stand at the door and squint through the tiny sections of glass that aren’t distorted! Are you on a busy pedestrian street? Or a high density condo community? Is there a reason we aren’t understanding why people will be by your door?...See MoreSidelight privacy treatment for rental front door
Comments (22)I live in a 1976-1980 tract home development, maybe 1,000 homes on ~300 acres. About 75% of the homes have front door similar to yours, but with the window on one side. Including mine. Some have installed: drapes, window film, stained glass, mini blinds, wood blinds, bubble glass, and for the last 5+ years, wider doors, eliminating the side windows. Do you have a budget? I have seen the Sunday Comics and kraft paper used. I added bubble glass, a panel was ~$20, 40 years ago, probable less expensive today. A couple of years ago, I added wood blinds, ~$350. If your budget is Wall Mart Panels, either install to cover the floor of ceiling. If you go to the floor, your curtains will not cover the top, but that will allow light....See MoreM Miller
