Different Petunias growth habits ?
Comments (12)Wow, good job. I am good at cuttings but struggle with seeds. Just put out my heirloom tomatoes I grew form seed and someone ate the leaves off all 9. I think the volunteers from last year will have to carry the load. Petunias can get very big. I just got interested last year when a 22" pot with two Supertunias Raspberry Blast covered the pot and smothering the bed around with a mound of pink. They are big time feeders and the budworms love them. I spray regularly with Bt. Another pot of unknown petunias grew long as summer progressed and flowered on the ends. I trimmed a few stems each week when I fertilize. They stopped blooming because of the heat but the Supertunias kept on going. I am trying hanging baskets this year and my first one is so heavy I had trouble lifting it up. I guess I am going to down size baskets to see how small I can go and still survive. Good luck Nice izhar! Here is a link that might be useful: How to Pick the Perfect Petunia...See MorePoseidon & Plum Perfect Roses
Comments (47)I gave that one to my mom, but I've seen it a couple times this year. I really like the color. It was perfectly healthy this year and we've had a ton of rain this year near Cincinnati. I think I just heard that it was the wettest July on record. I know it's difficult to draw conclusions on a 1st year plant (especially one growing in someone else's yard), but I like what I see so far. From what I've read, the hot and humid isn't a problem for Plum Perfect. However, there was some uncertainty on winter hardiness due to it being a new introduction though. Comments (29)Well I’m glad I stuck with the sunburnt Valencia, it has had a few beautiful flowers which stay for ages on the bush, and has lots of new leaves. I did mound up some lucerne and pea straw mulch around the base, have been feeding it and gave some Epsom salts and suddenly 3 shots have appeared from the base and are growing like crazy. I’m a bit worried they are suckers rather than basal shoots .. I’ve dug down but it’s hard to see, it looks like they are coming FROM the grafted place rather than above or below it. do these look like suckers to you? I could wait until they flower but I’ve read that suckers often don’t flower the first season and by then may have taken over...See MoreOwn root Plum Perfect rose progress...
Comments (51)I never do anything to my photos, either, so I didn't even think about that, flowers. I'd love one of those phlox. This place could use more color. I just can't get over your angel sculpture. I love the rose she's holding. It adds so much to the meaning of the piece. Those pine needles are horrible. We do have two honey locust, much too large, right next to our yard, on the hell strip. They are half in our yard because of their size. They drop these awful thin and straight, twigs with their little leaves. The twigs look like....pine needles. They stick in and on everything, and can't be just swept up. I hate those things, but this happens only in the fall. In the spring, they drop these woolly caterpillar like things that scare little kids--ha. What a tree from @#$%. I don't know how you cope with those pine needles all the time, though. Someone should invent a special little vacuum just for pine needles. Have you had your ice cream yet?
