Question on Plum Perfect Rose
Comments (26)In N. America we have some Kordes bred roses we introduce that Kordes does not introduce in Europe for various reason - examples Plum Perfect, Savannah, South Africa, Lemon Fizz Kolorscape. That is not to say they are not really great roses. Someday Kordes may introduce them. Plum Perfect has been introduced in S. Africa and Australia under the name Novalis. A lot of consideration goes into an introduction that is not to say it is not a good rose including regional tastes, what is already introduced in the same color range, climate, cold hardiness, disease resistance and so on. Plum Perfect is one of the most floriferous roses I have in trial. It is not a big bush - it is now reaching 3 tall' x 3.5' wide in my home garden after 3 years planted from an own root band pot. It is a vigorous rose in my Zone 8 - just compact. In colder climates I wonder if it will get big enough, but quite a few of the trial sites have also been happy with the flower production and the relatively compact size of this rose. It is one of the last roses still in bloom in my garden and was blooming this past December. I rate it among my favorites just for the bloom power. It has one bloom open today, but I will shoot an image for you tomorrow so you can see what I mean about compact, but vigorous....See MorePoseidon & Plum Perfect Roses
Comments (47)I gave that one to my mom, but I've seen it a couple times this year. I really like the color. It was perfectly healthy this year and we've had a ton of rain this year near Cincinnati. I think I just heard that it was the wettest July on record. I know it's difficult to draw conclusions on a 1st year plant (especially one growing in someone else's yard), but I like what I see so far. From what I've read, the hot and humid isn't a problem for Plum Perfect. However, there was some uncertainty on winter hardiness due to it being a new introduction though. Comments (23)Sue, love your comments. I too start my own-roots in pots and ask them to let me know when they're ready for the ground. Dark Desire slowed its growth significantly before the end of its first season here and will be going in the ground. Seemingly doesn't care for life in a pot. Savannah really took off; I could NOT keep up with pinching all the buds as much as I tried! Pink Enchantment seems to be a sparse vase-shaped HT; love the quality of the blooms but it is clearly going to test my patience. Let me report back after its third season! I went crazy on my spring orders for my garden and the one at the arboretum and have ordered Beverly, Eliza, Plum Perfect and South Africa. In the past I've been uncertain about Kordes in our intense 8A humid heat so the only others I have now are Lavaglut and Caramel Fairy Tale. Both very good here, BTW....See MoreCoffee Country rose (own root from Antique Rose Emporium)
Comments (13)It is like showing me two dresses and ask me which I like ? I like both and since I can't pick one most likely I will get both. Look at both the roses.. different styles, different cut ( bloom) , different colour and most likely different scent. SoFl, I feel as if I am getting into the same boat. I have room but it is matter of time that I will door be out of space. My husband is already asking me. 40 is not enough..Geezs, Jin. I want French roses, possibly a few Islanders, Antique ( mostly ) and also DA ( mostly ). Any perfumes made of roses like Nahema is on my want list. Then , I want big blooms which are big roses. I have a long , long lists lastly climbing roses which I also have a list. Trying to cut half my list by is not working :( Cori Ann, you are killing me too....your roses are beautiful. Really gorgeous. Jin...See Morejim1961 / Central Pennsylvania / Zone 6
