Comments (3)There are shou sugi ban vendors with warranted products in the United States, there is actually one in the suburbs near me which I found quite surprising. Since England has a wider variety of acceptable building practices (Cob would not be allowable in many US locations for example), I am sure that there are shou sugi ban vendors in UK. who could be helpful with information. Actually there are probably more builds with alternative siding in UK that would be within visiting distance. I wonder if the producers of Grand Designs may also be a resource, since they often highlight unique builds and products....See MoreBrown House Curb Appeal Help Needed!!
Comments (49)Have you talked to professional masonry person re: fixing the discrepancy in color of brick? Its the combination of the natural raw brick texture with that wonderful burnt wood that looks so fantastic - the two materials belong together. Brick painted with acrylic even if a similar color, is not going to have that same synergistic effect with the wood. Painted brick will look flat and and dull since it wont have the slight color variations of real brick. The texture will be that of brick encased in plastic instead of rough natural texture of brick. And btw, latex or acrylic paint - any paint that forms a film on the surface and doesn't allow water vapor to freely pass through is a mistake cos moisture gets trapped behind the film and long term damages the brick. If you have to paint then choose mineral paint. Since its made with real mineral pigments instead of chemical colorants Ive been told the color has more richness and depth and you can get it in different "weights" - some are thinner so that more of the texture or roughness would show through. Romabio and Limeworks USA both have fantastic customer service - can do custom color if you send them a brick or a good picture....See MoreSad about new walnut kitchen cabinets (anyone have solutions?)
Comments (123)Stain wouldn't block UV rays and oxidation that cause walnut/pecan to lighten (the woods are similar, so beware you aren't really getting pecan when you ordered walnut instead), but a robust clear coat and low natural lighting with an indoor location protected by walls and window glass would. Anyone choosing to pay extra for walnut should always beware of the risk of lightening over time, however, as it is a photosensitive wood. Walnut lightens over time in an opposite way as cherry darkens over time--different reactions to sunlight....See MoreBlack Stucco Home
Comments (16)The rendering above does not reflect the exact stone. It is not a ledger stone. It is a blend of sizes. Some are more square, some are thin rectangles some are thick rectangles and the lengths vary as well. Dark stone is nice. But for us it removes the warmth from the home that the lighter sandstone achieves....See MoreUser
