No you are not the only one. In Florida we seem to be overloaded with loud and fast talking car dealership commercials, seems much more than what I remember from living in the northeast.

I notice that too. Even news announcer seem to speak at a higher pitch.

Doesn't it make sense that commercials would be louder in Florida where there are so many retirees?

YES, those salesmen are horrible! I would love to kick in the TV if it would help. I was going to write the car dealer but they didn't have a contact email. The idiot and his friend are twerking all over the place! They are not young either, don't they know any better?????

Does anyone remember the Carpet dealer in NJ, they would yell "Hey Jerry, whats the story"? I thought that was funny but that was 30 yrs ago so it wasn't so bad.

I forgot what product it is for, but there is a retired football coach who pitches the produce & he has an awful speaking voice. I just hate it.

TV commercials are often louder than the program. That's what the remote is for, hit the mute button

About the audio book thing - I used to be a traveling salesman and listened to many books as I drove from one appointment to the next. I learned quickly which readers were good for my ears. Most of the authors who read were just not good. There were a couple of female readers that grated my ears. I just passed on those who I did not like.

I watch only PBS because I cannot abide stoopid advertisements. The missus thinks that I am nuts about that, but I have no problem missing all of those fantastic commercials! At least with the daily paper, I can scan and dismiss quickly.

I've "read" hundreds of audio books and, as per my earlier comment, I pay no attention to the reader's voice. I've never encountered one that bothered me or otherwise had any impact on my experience. I know others feel differently.

Yes on the audio books, Jim! I also drive a lot at work and listen to them on those long, rural drives. I use Audible. Some narrators make me crazy! With Audible, you can listen to a sample first. Once I figured that out the returns when way down. I sometimes pick books just by narrator first and author second.

You can usually tell when a show is going to go to commercial. Have your remote nearby, and grab it as you sense that a commercial break is coming. Hit the mute as soon as the show starts to fade to commercial. It's easy. Hubs and I do it.

It is easy enough to do.........just annoying as s........t to have these extremely annoying and loud commercials. I know, I know to each his own, but dang, some are downright obnoxious.

I cannot abide that English woman who narrates historical shows for PBS - Lucy Worsley. She drives me crazy! And I hated the voice of the woman who played "Ellen" on "thirtysomething". Of course these was that annoying man who did Oxyclean commercials.

Tom Martino's voice, on his radio show.....seems whiny and sirenish. I like him, like what he does....but it strains me to listen to him.

I find some voices irritating too..after the Flip or Flop couple split I read lots of negative comments about Christina's voice..and I thought so it's NOT just me..

I always mute TV commercials. For audiobooks, IMHO the narrator's delivery is a part of the audiobooks package and if I find the narration unpleasant or done by rote, it diminishes my listening enjoyment and I usually don't continue. I listen to audiobooks a lot and I have encountered some wonderful narrators. I most often download audiobooks from the public library, but not all titles are available. I ended up purchasing Andersonville and Gone with the Wind from audible.com because I enjoyed reading them so much and fortunately the narrators are excellent.

My husband listens to the television with the volume very high. I must go to another room when this happens. Noise has always bothered me but doesn't seem to disturb him one whit! So much TV is just 'noise' these days, in my opinion.
