mourning the end of the season
Comments (17)I crochet, read, sew, make gifts for Christmas and decorate the house. I take pictures of my yard, my pets and my family. I watched the leaves change colors and soon snow will fall outside my windows. I can marvel at the sheer beauty of the world in fall & winter. I feed the wild birds and take care of my chickens and other critters. I build snowmen when it snows and have snowball fights with anyone willing. I go for short, brisk walks. I listen to music and watch movies. In January, the seed catalogs start to arrive in the mail. I love to look through them, although I will likely never be able to buy anything in them. In January I start my broccoli, cabbages, tomatoes and peppers for the coming growing season and tend my plants out int he greenhouse. I love to crochet and can sit and do that while I keep up with political news (I am a political junkie). I write letters and send packages of stuff to my grandkids. I work on genealogy and communicate with friends and family all over the world via email and chat. I work on quilts. I cook and bake goods for my family. I stay busy and enjoy the stillness and peace of winter. I take cozy naps on the sofa with my dogs and cats. I pop popcorn and make hot cocoa. When I am not feeling very well, I can stay in bed and pull the covers up over my head and hibernate...with my dogs and cats (grin). I clean out closets and cupboards I didn't keep up with in the summer. I can always find things to do. I HAVE to stay busy, even if I am confined to a chair or to bed. Enjoy each season as it comes. ~ Annie...See MoreMourning Doves...population growing!
Comments (59)Our doves did try to eat some of the rice I threw out for them as I had read that someone had said they liked rice. Yesterday I noticed that our baby doves were sitting alone but we were also aware that the Mom and Dad were close by watching over them. Late in the day a Blue Jay was after the two little ones sitting in thier nest. Both parents decended on the Blue Jay until he flew away. Neither of the parents went back to the nest; we were concerned that they wouldn't make it to the next day. To our joy we found the Mom sitting on the nest early in the morning. However later both parents were away from the baby doves. Late this afternoon I was thrilled to witness both the Mom and Dad at the nest; Mom was feeding the little ones. And later - no parents, no baby doves. They had left the nest. My previous witness of all four of them together must have been the LAST family gathering. My question is: Do the parents stay with thier young long enough to teach them full flying lessons or do they kick them out of the nest and expect them to survive on thier own?...See MoreFellow animal lovers, I need your help...
Comments (29)YEH!!! you got a new shelter dog!!! I live on 20 acres and have 16 dogs (all fixed). I keep them basically in three groups. I have lots of fencing and cross-fencing. My husband has electrified the bottom of the fence in some of the areas. I do have several that would kill each other if they got together but I've got it managed well. So I laugh when people think a third dog is "crazy." I don't work and that's helpful, of course. Late last year I did give my pug to rescue. There's a strong pug rescue group in my state so I knew she'd probably find a better place than here. I didn't think I could keep her from becoming obese. So I recently replaced her with a new shelter dog. He's so cute. He's gentle and quiet so far - an important thing when you have so much canine energy in one place. So many, many great dogs in the shelters - I could find one any day in there that I would just LOVE!!. vicky...See MoreMourning a fictional character
Comments (30)I did read it Liz! I even paid for the hardback because I like the series so much. I am mixed about seeing it into a movie. It would be fun to see the books come to life but I worry that the actors won't give these characters justice. I think Emily Deschanel would be a great Eve. She looks a bit how I picture her and I think she could pull off the hardness and passion mixed with awkwardness that is Eve! Her character in "Bones" seems very similar. Game of Thrones is much, much heavier. I find myself skimming parts and getting confused over so many characters but the story line is really interesting....See Morelgmd_gaz
