Should vestibule door have a lock if the front door does?
Comments (9)I can imagine two reasons for wanting some kind of lock on a vestibule door: extra layer of obstacle to keep young kids from escaping outside or to keep them from playing in the coat closet; or to be able to give neighbors a front door key so they could pick up mail/packages while one was out of town and put them in the vestibule, but not have access to the entire house. Actually, it just occurred to me: my grandparents had a lock in their vestibule door. It was unlocked all day, but we always locked it before heading to bed as an extra obstacle if someone tried to break in; there was a sliding glass door in the back of the vestibule that would have been easy to break and the bedrooms were on the opposite side of the house, so breaking glass might not have been heard. We never locked it when we left the house, just at night. Not sure if there's even a key for it!...See MoreNeed new lock and doorknob for front door- quickly- help
Comments (6)I love, love, love, love my Schlage keypad door system. You can use a key, but no need. Can't get locked out of the house. Can program it for, say, contractors or a neighbor, then delete those codes when they're done. I think they're really great. Comes in different styles and colors. Mine is ORB. this is the one I have, and it looks like the day I got it, still on the original battery as well. I bought it five years ago. Pressing the "Schlage" key also lights the keypad up, so you can see what your'e punching in at night I think I got mine at Home Depot...See MoreReplacing sliding glass door(s) with soundproof glass doors?
Comments (21)If you already have a double pane door, the problem may not be the door. Before going into expense of adding another layer of drywall to the walls and ceiling and replacing the door, I would check other things. Like bathroom exhaust fan ducting...is it insulated? HVAC ducts. Plumbing vents. Gaskets on all the exterior wall switches & receptacles as well as ceiling lights. Recessed light cans? Pull a piece of door/ window trim and check that the space between the jamb and framing is insulated....See MoreWhat type lock(s) do I need for double doors?
Comments (2)Thank you. That makes sense and the multi-point on the 2nd door does sound like what I'm wanting. As it turns out the multi-point lock this manufacturer uses, won't work on the secondary door. I guess all locks are not created equal and this particular one doesn't bolt into the head jamb and threshold. Regardless, you help me better communicate my needs to the manufacturer....See MoreUser
