Ideas for a vintage-looking shelf liner?
Comments (13)Well I thought I'd post a follow up, though I don't have any pictures - I was hoping to get some but never got a chance. I went to Joann's with the full intention of buying some table-cloth type vinyl, but I hated every pattern they had. So I was strolling around and happened across a roll of burlap/jute upholstery webbing. It was 3.5" wide and had 2 red stripes down it - the rest was burlap colored. The whold thing kind of reminded me of a feed sack. My shelves were 7" deep, so I figured 2 strips per shelf. The webbing was dirt-cheap too - .49/yd plus I had a coupon for 50% off. I bought 20 yards for less than $5. I just cut it and laid it on the shelves and they look great - just the retro vintage look I was hoping for. The downside is that spills won't be wipeable, but at that price, I'll just replace it when it gets nasty, LOL! I had a ton left over from my 20 yards anyhow! Thanks for all your suggestions!...See Moredrawer dividers, organizers, shelf liner?
Comments (32)helou, Yes you are correct. I needed to first rip the boards from their original 4 inch width, down to about 3 inches to fit in the drawers. (or about 1 3/4 inched for the front section of the silverware drawer. Also once I had the boards the correct width, I needed to carefully cut the boards to length. Then to get the boards to the correct length a powered miter saw is the best option, but again depending on what tools you have available, maybe a hand-held circular saw and a speed square, or a miter box and a hand-held pull-saw. If you have a table saw, ripping the boards is trivially easy. If not there are probably a number of other ways to make the boards the correct width. (The easiest might be to find a friend with a table saw, and ply that friend with a bottle of wine, to cut them to width.) But you should also be able to do it with a straight-edge and a hand-held circular saw, or maybe even a straight-edge and a utility knife....See MoreShelf liners?
Comments (7)I got some rolls of it at the 1$ store. I didn't want real cushy stuff or contact paper - which were the only options I was finding. This is like real old time shelf liner with just a tacky backside to it. it has that paper cover on the back but has just a tacky feel to it under that paper - not like super glue contact paper that will merge for all eternity with your shelf. it's cheap, it's wipe-able and changeable!...See MoreShelf liner for painted wood pantry shelves
Comments (9)I have a large walk-in pantry with painted shelves. I had trouble with shelf liner sticking to the paint, and curling up at the edges, so eventually I came up with a more permanent solution. I bought self-stick vinyl floor tiles with a smooth surface, and put them on the shelves. They are easy to cut and install, and very easy to clean. I liked the results so much I put them on every closet shelf in my house! I did consider putting laminate on the shelves, but I don't have the necessary tools to cut laminate, and for a pantry the size of mine it would have been quite expensive, especially if I had to pay for installation....See Morebossyvossy
