Closets by Design vs California Closets
Comments (16)We have had two closet systems installed Closets by Design. Both times we had positive experiences with the install; just be clear whether you want it to be notched in the back for baseboard, in my opinion it looks better to remove your baseboard so it’s not notched. It’s also worth it to add the baseboard and crown, and increase the height of the system to the ceiling. The salespeople do have a “poor mentality” to make sure they get the sale so you really have to push to add these extras. We are pretty handy, so the third closet system we did ourselves using Menard’s Dakota system for a third of the cost or less. It looks as nice and sturdy the rest....See MoreCloset design ideas
Comments (9)While 16x9 may feel big but you'll be happy in long run. Its a great size for a closet/dressing room and huge plus with buyer on resale. I'd decide what type of budget you have to add clothing storage and then storage for other items. Do you want it to all be the same closet material and designed together for a customized built in look or not. I recommend finding one and use for all. That space will not be inexpensive no mater what material you use, unless you use cheap particle board like a Closetmaid system from Home Depot or Lowe's. Ikea is great if you can put up with the amount of assembly needed for that type of space. Container stores are a very good ventilated product, we've used in past, just very expensive for wire shelving that is usually self installed (no ability to customize for different lengths other than what they offer 2FT & 4FT, unless cutting) I've attached a design for a large space like yours we did for a client. They chose no drawers or behind door storage to keep it open and meet budget. We added a large low decorative fabric bench in the middle to break up space and give a warm feel and a place to sit and put shoes on. We have lots of projects posted with designs. Take a look for ideas...best of luck and congrats on the new home....Mike...See MoreCloset design for reach-in closet "dead" areas.
Comments (8)I have that closet. My condolences. I put shelves in the dead ends and have it restricted to (in your example) 62" of hanging space. About a third is full height and the other is half height so approx 22" of full height hanging and 80" of half height hanging. I use the shelves for suitcases, rubbermaid totes, other large things like that. It's not ideal, but it's better than what I had....See MoreHelp me with closet design ideas please?
Comments (3)You start a closet design with knowing how much space you need for the stuff you own. Do you have a ton of shoes, alot of long hanging dresses and coats do you share this closet ? All those questions need answers. This is not a huge closet so it needs to be weel thought out.You could do hanging space all along the left wall and across the back with 12” deep storage on the right for shoes , accessories etc. Hanging space needs to be 24” deep to accomodate hangers you could do that on the left and a dresser on the back wall. So think about what needs to go in there to start. I have 90 pairs of shoes that is where my closet design always starts...See Moresuero
