Would this uneven wall bother you?
Comments (38)The architect was hired to see the project to completion. His involvement should not be with straight stone laying, but to explain how the stone should meet the soffit or crown. I'm not going up be the one to tell the masons to fix this. My builder will handle it....See MoreWould this bother you enough to make a stink about it?
Comments (15)Thank you all for your suggestions/advice! I talked to our contractor today who was not happy we called him out on it (to put it mildly...). This is not a small project compared to his other projects he has done in the past - it is the norm. He doesn't do commercial work. He said he can hand sand the edges to make them more rounded since ours aren't super rounded and the machine might round them too much. He said if we wanted to "cap" them that it would be out of our pocket. Said that materials would cost too much. I told him that the easiest solution to make them all match is okay by us. We just want them to "match existing" as it states in our contract. We left the convo with him saying he wants to "try hand sanding" - not sure where he will go if that doesn't work out! Another question - should we be able to see the break in the baseboards between the new and old or should he be able to sand/caulk them enough so that it isn't noticeable (at least from across the room)? They also had a visible line where the new crown molding (all new) was installed and they had a break in the pieces of wood. Is this acceptable? I'm starting to think that since it is the end of the project that he is cutting corners... :(...See MoreEmpty Space Behind Cabinets / Appliances - Would it bother you?
Comments (14)Thanks for the idea! An open cabinet actually wouldn't work b/c the 9 inch is in the middle of the run - next to corner cab. It is taking the place of what was going to be a 3 inch filler. Looks like it might be good for cookie sheets or something though! On the bottom, I just ahve my blind base to deal with (which is getting a better door front now) - and the 4 inches of empty space in the corner - blocked by blind base and dishwasher - so only I will know it's totally vacant space. Oh well! I hope I love it all when it's done!...See MoreWould you consider this acceptable for a quartz countertop?
Comments (19)Though I'd post an update for posterity. After the fabricator told me they were going to replace the top I got a call from Viatera asking about it and saying they were sending someone out. I gave them the fabricators number and told them they should talk to them and figure it out. The fabricator then called me back and said that while most of the manufacturers they work with just have them replace and deal with the claim after Viatera wants to try and fix it first. I told him I was fine with that. They sent someone a couple of days ago and he was able to polish/buff it out on site. He basically refinished the whole countertop, it took him quite a while and he had to do it twice to get it all, but it looks lovely! In fact I like the finish better than the factory finish, its not as glassy looking, it doesn't have that matte look (which I was originally attracted to but decided against because I heard it was hard to care for), its still very shiny just not "glassy" if that makes sense. He said he's gotten really good at doing them because Viatera always wants him to try even if he doesn't succeed they'll still pay him, he said most other manufactures don't want you to touch it unless you're sure it can be fixed. Either way, I'm happy with it, and finally was able to hook up the faucet and use the island in its entirety. Now I'm wondering if there is anyway to request this shiny, but not glassy, finish for the back counters when I'm ready to do them?...See Morejpmom
