Comments (23)Daane, first, I am so sorry for the loss of your step-daughter. How vey sad. I presume she was young. Did she have a family? Next -- I applaud you for being so conscientious about your health. So many of us let it slide. One thing I've learned working in a hospital is that early detection of almost any health situation is key. The surgery sounds scary but it sounds like this could resolve your condition. I hope so and will be thinking of you. (Every time I hear ISlets of Langerhans, I think of Biology class. That "part of the body" was always easy to remember since the name is unique.) Hugs to you Diane -- except after the 25th they will be very soft hugs for awhile....See MorePlease send good thoughts to Toodyay
Comments (12)Hi Lyra, we're just starting summer here, which is generally fairly dry. We don't expect any rain until June if we're lucky, July or August if we're not. I think the worst ting about losing everything in a fire is that your personal landscape disappears. Not just photos, but no more, "These were grandma's dishes, that's the picture I bought when we were vacationing in Mexico, here's the letter DH wrote me when we were dating and he was away at boot camp", that sort of thing. You lose all your history. Furniture can be replaced, but it won't be the coffee table Jimmy teethed on, the lamp that was a wedding gift... I would find that paralysingly depressing as I'm an old sentimentalist....See MoreThink me some good thoughts
Comments (64)Annie - My slim active mid 50's DH thought he had the flu 2 weeks ago - Doc insisted on stress test --- immediate surgery (saved his life) the "flu and sore throat" was heart blockages - numerous and severe. Too many for a bypass - We are still in shock! Cooking will change. I tell you this not to scare you, but to tell you to listen to your Boy Wonder!! I too am sending positive thoughts your way....See MoreSend me good thoughts!
Comments (44)I'm BACK! Yep, 5 hours on the operating table (which is why they only schedule two of these operations every other week) and then 4 days for recovery. Came home yesterday at 10:00 and first thing took a good shower. Couldn't wait to do that. Don't know who is happier to have me home - George or the dog! Lily went nuts once she realized who it was coming through the door. I felt like a little kid again when I was finally able to have a BM (one of the requirements for release) and wanted to tell the nurse "Look momma I make potty!" The doctor was extremely pleased by my progress. Stay in hospital post-surgery is 4 to 7 days, the average being on the 7 day side. Hurray for me! I got the nickname speed demon once I started doing my walking around the corridors. The nurses loved me and said I was one of the best patients they've had. Much as I like them, I wanted out of there. Hopefully next week they'll be able to remove the catheter and I'll be fully functional. In the meantime I have my "day" bag and my "night" bag. You might know it they were all our of bejeweled bags! Dam. Had to settle for ugly old plastic. Glad to be back here and thanks for all the warm wishes and thoughts. It certainly helped....See More- 9 years ago
