Poseidon in hot & humid
Comments (12)Poseidon is a climber for me here. Its in a pot that grew into the ground and is leaned against a trellis. Its over 10ft tall. Blooms very well. Lived through flooding/brackish water and stayed on its trellis through H. Irma lol. Leaves stay nice and green and doesn't ball or defoliate in our hot humid summers. I just love the color. I am planning to get a couple more Poseidons this spring and make another arch for them. I will probably mix some Honeymoon roses with them. My current Poseidon is paired with Marechal Neil. I didn't plan it that way but they are charming together since MN is more of a baby yellow than bright gold yellow. Poseidon with a matching blue lavender colored ginger in foreground. Comments (2)I am in 6b. My two Poseidons have little winter kill. Probably the most hardy hybrid tea/grandiflora I have, on par with Earth Song. Stiff, and tall, benefits from hard pruning for branching. Bulletproof in terms of health. Great fragrance. The thing is that the petals lack substance, and do not handle rain well. I don’t have garden sun....See MoreFull bush shots of my Poseidon
Comments (12)Thank you everyone! Jasmine, mine is grafted on multiflora. Moses, so far it has been very winter hardy. Jo, no problem, I love posting pictures, but wanted to be sure I could get one that the blooms looked okay. Lily, yours looks really good to me. The year I planted mine, I think 2015, mine set on quite a few buds and they just withered, I don’t know what happened, because that was a pretty good year for most of my roses. I think by the end of the season it had two blooms, but ever since then it has done great. Diane, no I don’t, but the humidity hasn’t helped them at all. I hope you have those perfectly gorgeous Love Song blooms soon!...See MoreMy Poseidon snuck a bloom!
Comments (14)Beautiful bloom, Perma! I really like Poseidon, as well. The first 2 years all my Poseidon blooms fried after the first flush in May. I was so tired of those fried blooms that I was rigging up the most ghetto shade contraption every time another flush was about to open. I used my upside down wheelbarrow with an old screen from a sliding glass door. (Poseidon is in the backyard, I’d never do that out front). Every time I did it, I’d tell myself it was for the last time, but I loved all those perfect blooms for cutting. They’re such a unique lavender color, much different from my Love Song blooms. It produced so many blooms per flush, that I couldn’t stand to let all those lovely blooms fry. I wish I had kept a picture of that setup. Lol The great news is, last summer Poseidon bloomed and bloomed, without a fried or scorched flower to be seen. No ghetto shade setup needed! In Poseidon’s third year, it’s roots were fully established and down down deep enough that it could keep the blooms supplied with enough water. I’m so glad I didn’t rip it out. It’s a wonderful rose. Mine is loaded with buds today, and has a few open now. I’ll switch to the app and post a photo. Perma, you’re going to love Poseidon! Lisa...See MoreGillian (zone 5b/6a) Ontario, Canada
