My first holiday mishap....

Anyone else have odd mishaps when preparing for the holidays. You know things like you forgot to add the vanilla, or you used baking soda instead of baking powder?

I guess it's just the stress of the holidays. This morning I woke up and decided to make my DD's favorite dip that she requested. Everything was cut and ready to go. I open the bag of taco seasoning and combine it with the sour cream. Put the packet on the counter only to see that there was a tear on the reverse side! Now I have to go and find another one! This was the past packet at the usual store.

Can't think of anything right now. But this year I bought a small bag of chocolate truffles to go with my mother-in-law's gift. I can't find them anywhere!!

More happenings than I should probably take time to type this morning ;0) Not that many holidays ago, I remember carefully pouring my artfully arranged pecans and filling out of my nieces pecan pie to add the melted butter I realized hadn't made it into the pie just as I was opening the oven to begin to bake.

I'm sorry you have to make an ingredients trip today, hope the parking and checkout lines aren't awful for you....

I posted my mishap on another forum, but I'll share it here too. I did this on Monday:

When we go to Christmas Eve services tonight, I'm going to see if one of our red stockings (like you hang for santa) will fit. I'll be festive!

Drains have been slow for awhile, I knew better, last night and this morning toilet VERY sluggish. I should have called a week ago! Thank goodness I'm on the septic line warranty program with my gas company. Service calls and labor all free. Their contractor just called, he'll be out today sometime between 1p - 5pm. We all know what that means, but I'll be happy with whatever time.

Except if it's too much later than 5p I'll probably miss Christmas Eve services at the church beginning at 7pm. I like to be there around 6:30p. and not walk into it in the middle.

I haven't had any major mishaps, knock on wood. I made a little mistake when I was chopping batches of cranberries. At one point, I dumped a hopper full of chopped berries into the bowl of unchopped berries. No problem fixing that.

Yes, I'm the one who forgot the vanilla until everything else had been mixed for chocolate chip cookies. But my recipe also calls for vanilla pudding in the mix and they taste just fine. Hope that's the biggest boo-boo I make.

I was making cinnamon chip cookies. Had them on the cookie sheet to put in the oven,... that's when I noticed the unopened bag of cinnamon chips on the counter!! Where was my mind? I promptly put all the dough back in the bowl, and added the main ingredient!

My mishap was deciding to do a Xmas Eve walk by the creek at our local park. We had a tiny bit of rain last night, 1/10th of an inch. I bought a new pair of Nikes today so I didn't wear them because I knew it would be damp. But I was not expecting my path to be a giant mud hole the whole length until it turns into the woods. My theory is the ground is frozen there and the water accumulated from last nights and a small rain event two days ago. Trying to maneuver the dog around puddles, I slipped and fell into a mud puddle. First time in my life for that. Thankfully no one saw me and I came home and did a wash.

During Mass last night it DAWNED on me I left out the peas in our favorite layered salad. I cant' really just add them as the dressing is the final layer....

I'm up because dd has now gotten sick in two beds. I'm hoping this isn't a rotavirus. Ugh!

Yes, Lily, I have fallen quite a few times with my dog. And honestly it was not the dog. It was being just not paying attention.

Adella, I hope your daughter recovers quickly. What a time to get sick!

So sorry to hear this Adella...how old is your daughter? This is the time of year that the gastro viral infection goes around. Hope she's feeling better soon. Rest her upper gastro for a few hours, nothing by mouth..in a few hours try a popsicle or tiny sips of koolaid or gingerale something clear and with sugar in it. How sad when sickness hits expecially today of all days. Get some rest when you can

Forgot to say if you take her to the local ER they can give Zofran to stop the vomiting.

It wasn't holiday related, but yesterday I sold a skirt on eBay and packed it for shipping. As always, I included a To-From sheet in case the package got damaged in transit. It was all set to go in the mailbox when I happened to see the folded To-From sheet still on my desk. Turned out I'd included my friend Lisa's folded Christmas letter in with the skirt. Yes, the stress of the holidays!

I made my home made sausage dressing yesterday. I stirred it with my favorite silicon spatula. I was about to put the pan of dressing in the oven when I glanced down and noticed half of my silicon spatula was missing. My friend and I spent a half an hour digging through the pan of dressing finding the little pieces of spatula and trying to piece them together on the main part to make sure we got them all. Sigh. Good thing the spatula was teal blue which made finding the pieces a little easier.

I made three pumpkin pies and after taking them out of the oven I noticed my still unopened bag of sugar.

Aprile I had a similar thing happen this past week with a silicon spatula. I've had mine for a very long time and am wondering if they weaken with use.

    Granny,

I loved that particular one so I have no doubt they must break down after a while. I have had it for a few years not an extremely long time. I had hoped it would last longer that this. I went looking and of course they don't make them anymore.

I went to Dollar Tree and bought some silicone spatulas there. I really like them and if they break I am only out of a dollar. The have red ones and white ones,

I forgot to buy or make whipped cream for the pumpkin cheesecake. I stopped at 7-11 and Loaf & Jug....neither had it. Oh well....

Love the name of that store: Loaf & Jug!! We don't have anything like that name around here.
