Can you help me pull this together?
Comments (8)The floor and the rock for the fireplace wall are both lovely and they harmonize really well. I can see why you anchored on those first! I don't have a strong opinion about farmhouse vs. SS sink, although my sense from the layout is that the sink is not really in a spot where people will be gazing at it as a focal point, so you might not get much punch from the farmhouse sink. I think the challenge with the counter and backsplash is that the way your sample photos are set up, you're not looking at pairs of one countertop sample and one backsplash sample, which makes it harder to visualize the combinations. This is where a little photoshopping might help... perhaps someone else here can help with that (I don't have the program). My personal favorite is the very last quartz sample (dark, with brown flecks) paired with the smoky glass brick tiles. I think that those dark colors would provide a nice contrast to the white cabinets. The only quartz sample that I think works with the marble is the creamy one on the left in the first photo of quartz. If you haven't already considered it, there's a new Ceasarstone called Milky Carrera that could harmonize well with a marble backsplash (it has grey notes in it, so it is not as warm as the others you are looking at). About layout -- are you going to have different counter heights both on the island and on the wall to the left of the ovens? That seems a little busy to me, but perhaps I'm missing the particular functions of those different areas. If you have all those contrasts going on, I would keep the island the same color as the other cabinets. If it is difficult to find samples in your small town, it may be worth taking the extra time to order some by mail. Just my two cents... Comments (27)Just wondering if bed would go on wall where dressers are and either tall boy or dresser with mirror placed between windows. Is there another wall for the second piece? Would she like a wall hanging and there are tutorials on line as well as lots of combinations. Gives her something interesting to work on, inexpensive and she will have made a contribution to her room. Somewhat whimsical and given the lights around ceiling, thought she might like the idea In regards to lamps, think about complimentary vs the same andTarget has these cute ones at good prices....See MoreHelp! Comments (18)likewhatyoudo - Thank you so much for those gorgeous recommendations. I do feel like I need something a bit more dramatic as everyone in our neighborhood is pretty much light gray. Just curious what is the equal of BM Embers to Sherwin Williams? And regarding your suggestions of beefing up columns, we actually replaced our columns last week which I've attached today's picture here so you can see it a bit more. I would LOVE to replace our door in addition but I don't have the $$ to do that t this time. Not sure if you saw another post I actually added this morning (titled: Help! Need to decide exterior paint asap! Looking for mok ups to help) explaining I just lost my job due to COVID so I'm scraping by gettting the little work done that is currently taking place (replacing awful wood rot and the load bearing columns) , and now getting to paint. So no wiggle room for anything extra though we are trying to get our front lawn to look good this summer (fingers crossed). I really do appreciate all suggestions though.....time is ticking and my fiance is going to ring my neck!...See Moretrying to modernize my home. Need help pulling it together.
Comments (11)i've shown you many, many pictures. of course white would work. you haven't said which of those styles in the pictures you like. or what else you'd like to do in the room. do you view all of the pictures in both of my comments? any of those you like best? I like these if you want to keep the white brick. the shelving on the sides are paramount to the overall look I would do a diff mantle, something slighting darker than what you currently have. Can you do something like this built ins? I gave you a bunch of examples and a tutorial you can try. get a black firebox insert (or paint yours) This is a white mantle, but the reclaimed wood one would also work. (look at how this picture is style w/color and textures. this is how you get away w/doing a plain white wall,,,,,color through other items in the room) if you can't do built ins, then get some simple white shelves (or paint some raw wood ones) and install them like this: You could do the black hearth if you want to go w/black contrast (see further down) (get a solid piece cut to fit, or, take a look at large Basalt tiles and cut those to place on the hearth. you should only need 2 or 3 of them (18" or 24" size tile) I also like this black. what do you think about all white walls, your rug, a darker brick color, and these other elements? what if you did the white, darker wood mantle, and a black accent wall (and do the others in white) (diff stone, ) But what do you think of this look? I think you have a similar bench. just get two sofas that face each other, some art for the mantle, two match chests or cabinets for the black wall (you could even do the angled black shiplap if you like) some lights, accessories. or, try painting the brick black (or charcoal, navy, gray,) , white walls (do a better wood mantle that goes all the way across) do black brick on the bottom part, and a white MDF top portion that covers the brick (like the other pics I posted earlier) Then you could decorate like either of these Or, if you rather would have the white brick, here's plenty of design options. just pick one of these photos you like and copy everything! very white, boho type of look. Exact same fireplace. get this type of wood mantle (doesn't have to be quite this thick, but just make it look like this) Style like any of these pictures that I've posted. White brick? try these items in the room Furniture options. How about a nice deep navy or forest green accent wall w/the white brick? Here's a nice blue like BM Gentlemans Gray or Newburge Green Pair it w/a leather sofa. (Try Article Sven Sofa) looks great w/the white brick and thicker mantle! another blue wall shot Here's your room size w/the forest green (imagine your white brick all the way up) This is modernized. Love this...See MoreDH
