Wolfgang, the size of your table is too small. The table top needs to overhang the seating. Here is a picture of how people sit at a table when eating.There is usually only 6 to 8 inches between the person and the table. More than that causes a person to have to lean in uncomfortably. HERE is a PDF of average dimensions for furniture. While you don't have to adhere to them, varying too much can lead to awkwardness. Assuming 4-inch thick seating, you should have 11 inches between the foam and the top of the table. That is 33 inches to the top of the table—18+4+11. For reference, most kitchen counter tops are 36 inches tall. You can use 2-inch foam if you choose a higher DENSITY/QUALITY foam. Buying chairs later is when you might have a problem. Most dining chairs are 18 inches to the top of the padding with a few to 19 inches. Be sure to take a tape measure with you when you shop. This would be 14 to 15 inches between the seat and the top of the table.

Good advice re: lighting. Thank you! I’ll keep an eye out for lamps that I don’t mind if/when the kids break them. Sad reality, but better to be prepared for the worst and pleasantly surprised, I say! I pretty much begged the hubby to put in some wall sconces in the bay when we built the window seat, but alas, it was a no go. I can’t blame him, he works really hard and didn’t have the time to commit right then. And of course, steam roller me had to keep pressing on with the project rather than waiting until he had capacity to do the requested lighting.

We have a local restaurant that has those Slope West Elm chairs in leather. They are so comfortable that one night I had my son stoop down and take a pic of the tag beneath the chair when we were dining there, lol. They must be durable because this is a very popular, busy restaurant (pre-Covid). Eventually I might replace my awful, cheap chairs with this chair.

Congratulations! Your home is beautiful, I really like what you’ve done so far. There are so many ways you could go. One idea is to mix casual, traditional, and textured with chairs a touch more sleek, luxe, and modern. I like the gold legs on the side chairs for the connection with your great fixture. Not necessarily these exact chairs, but just to show what I mean: A simpler idea would be to do all Parsons chairs, slip-covered or not. They’re a classic with so many styles, and comfortable. Slip-covered ones would bring a nice softness to the concrete table.
