PC sales down, Windows 8 to blame
Comments (18)I tried a Win8 laptop with a touchscreen in 10/12, and just this week tried a Samsung Activ 11" tablet with Win8 (the full version, not RT). The laptop got returned because of a bug in the OS that wouldn't allow some functions. The tablet was returned because of Microsoft's way of handling user accounts and support. I kinda liked Win8 on both devices. I was willing to deal\cope with incompatibilty with my printers and other devices, and expected some bumps in the road. Win8 on both devices was awkward in terms of the touch features compared to android. Also, I don't know why Microsoft hides so many functions so deep in menus and makes them so hard to find, even for experienced users. I found the Microsoft account isn't very consumer friendly. I was able to log in to it, but never was able to find much useful information there. Did you know - if you change your password on your Microsoft account it is automatically changed on all your Win8 devices. I can see how this might be useful for some. But I lol when I thought about people buying WIn8 devices for their kids, changing their passwords, and the pandemonium when the kids freak out because they can't use their devices. I was a little put off when a Microsoft tech advised that some Win8 functions won't work unless you are logged in to the Microsoft account. The tablet return was prompted by Microsoft. The tablet itself was nice, worked fine, and I liked it. When I called Microsoft, several times over about 2 hours, each time I was transferred numerous times, each time because I was asking about a Win8 tablet. Each time I was finally routed to their Surface department (the name for the Microsoft tablet) where I was promptly told I would not be helped because my tablet was not made by Microsoft. So, since Microsoft wouldn't provide support for a very minor issue with their OS I decided it wasn't worth the time and $. The Win8 tablet was returned and replaced with an android tablet....See MoreUse Equity in Sale of home to pay down debt?
Comments (1)just a girl's Mom, Two questions: What rate of interest are your credit card owners charging you on the debt? If it's low and about to to rise soon, what will the rate then be? What rate do you anticipate that your mortgage lender may charge? Generally speaking, I dislike credit card debt intensely, for most regular carriers charge 15 - 18% annual rate. But that's not the worst of it - most store-issued cards rates run 25 - 28%. And, since most of the stuff that many of us buy isn't income tax deductible, if you're in 25% marginal rate of tax, you must earn $37. per $100. debt, then pay $9. tax, leaving you with $28. to pay the credit card carrier. No wonder the isssuers of those cards smile! You would, too, if you were able to issue such cards. I'm in favour of using the funds to pay off the debt on the credit cards. With one heavy-duty proviso, however. You most likely used the cards to buy things that'll be used up over a short term, i.e. consumer items. That is, you lived in the past above what you were able to buy with earnings during that period. I want you to make an iron-clad agreement with yourself that, rather than letting that portion of your mortgage run over the full period of the mortgage, you work really hard to pay down that portion of the principal over a year or two, three at the outside. Otherwise, you'll still be paying in 15, 20 or 25 years for the carrots you ate, gas you used in your car, or Christmas gifts for your sister that were part of your living last year/today (two or three years ago, maybe?). Try really hard not to carry credit card debt - defer the purchase and put that interest into your own pocket. By the way - do you have some extra funds on hand so that if your car blows an engine, tranny, or whatever, or you need a root canal, or you suffer a prolonged layoff ... you'd still be operating comfortably with no income in the meantime ... three months (or, preferably six months or a year) from now? A cushion like that results in a good deal less chewing of fingernails for many people when faced with an emergency. Good wishes for skillful management of your money. ole joyful...See MoreApril Fresh Downy changed AGAIN!!!!!
Comments (18)Remember when Angel perfume hit the market and suddenly everything with a smell turned sickly sweet? In the last 1-2 years, the trend is to smell like men's cologne. Candles, AXE and other body washes, even the scents they spray in retail stores have that patchouli/vanilla/oud like base (see Tide Ultra)....See MoreDowny Crystals and Front Load Newbies
Comments (12)Becky, you can select the "Fan Fresh" option with any cycle. At the completion of the cycle the door remains locked with the fan running to circulate air. Machine tumbles periodically to fluff the laundry. So if you can't unload the machine right away; this keeps you laundry and washer fresh. The washer will remember this so you don't have to select it each time. I have the same machine and monthly I run the Clean washer cycle with Affresh or Bleach. It flushes the machine nicely and it is fresh and clean. We have a dog and it seems to effectively clear the machine of dog hair. After that cycle, I take a moment to wipe the rubber seal, door glass and remove and rinse out the dispenser drawer. The detergent cartridge, does not seem to require anything other than a occasional refill as indicated by the low detergent indicator....See Morerpsinfoman
