Comments (37)Hi Dot - I ordered MOONLIGHT SAIL from Pat as well. I prefer to order mainly from the hybridizers...but if I want an older one I go to my favorite resellers. Thanks very much for the tip on SPECIAL CANDY...I've heard great things from others about it as well. Hehehe Lynxe!! Sure I'd love to trial all the new Stamile's for you :~) I haven't ordered many Stamile's lately because my collection was becoming mostly Stamile's and I needed to diversify. I can tell you that WREN'S SONG, LESLIE RENEE, FLAMINGO PARADE, and TRANQUIL WATERS all did well up here. CORONAL LIGHT was lost in a real bad winter and it is the ONLY Stamile I'd ever lost here. I've thought about giving CL another shot as it was probably something I did wrong. Let's see if I can did up some more pictures: TRANQUIL WATERS WREN'S SONG CORONAL LIGHT LESLIE RENEE FLAMINGO PARADE is not a red-purple so I don't want to include the pic but I'll attach it for anyone interested.... Comments (42)I only have two red roses- Munstead Wood, which I got bare root last summer and is barely hanging in there, and Showbiz. I find myself attracted most to the red and white roses. I love Cherry Parfait- I have Double Delight, but Cherry looks redder. I also love all of those red/white reverse roses- Snowfire set my heart on fire! Fire and Ice is another one, and Mariposa Gem is perhaps my favorite of them. Beth's black-reds are unbelievable. I would never even try one of those here with our heat, but I swoon when I look at them. I may replace the Showbiz I have with Lavaglut, since Showbiz don't like the heat and lasts such a short time. I am also looking at Don Juan- almost bought it today. Here's Showbiz: Renee...See MoreShow us your DARKEST reds.
Comments (34)Brandy, I'm glad you ordered Deep Secret. You won't be disappointed. I have a single stem of it in a vase in my office right now. So far it has held its form for over a week and looks like it will last several more days easily. The color is wonderful. The disease resistance is great, even here in "Blackspot Hell" and last but not least, it has really strong, classic Damask fragrance. It's a short, compact bush, maybe 3 feet by 3 feet. Blooms are modest sized but such an intense color that they look bigger. Mine did take a while (most of a season) to establish before it started giving my consistently well-formed blooms. Be patient. It will be worth it. One I haven't grown but have loved the pictures of is Night'n'Day. Deep dark red outer petals with glowing-hot scarlet center. Very eye-catching. Supposedly healthy and somwhat fragrant. If size does not matter, I also recommend Memphis Magic, a mini flora from Whit Wells, available at Almost Heaven Roses or Two Sisters Roses. A child of the HT Black Magic, it is even slightly darker, actually burgundy with black shadings, similar to Black Beauty. Memphis Magic is a terrific cut flower, lasting up to 3 weeks. It also maintains its shape when dried and turns completely black. So many great dark reds!...See MoreShow your roses by color: ORANGE/APRICOT
Comments (40)Like Vaporvac, my head is exploding! Haha I’m looking up so many of these gorgeous roses on HMF. I agree about Polka. I’m in love with it. Super healthy, vigorous grower on own-root, big, beautiful perfect blooms. A real winner. I ordered it last spring from Heirloom Roses. It’s in a pot at the moment and I plan on leaving it in but putting it up against a “climbing wall” for next spring. The blooms are giant! I don’t know how the blooms would do with Western sun exposure. I baby my roses with a shade cover and Polka got late afternoon shade although I see you’re in Zone 6 and probably not as much under a burning high desert sun like I am. Teka, how do you like your Polka? Henrik, your photos are beautiful. Do you have a favorite out of your group? Hans, how do you like Chippendale. I’ve been eyeing this one for a while. Your Augusta Luise is stunning. Gosh, they’re all so beautiful everyone… especially the tree frog. Kate, your Queen of Sweden stopped me in my tracks. Gorgeous. Thanks Sara-Ann, these rose color threads are getting me thru the Winter! And hey, it’s December 21st… don’t the days begin to get longer??...See Moredublinbay z6 (KS)
