I have been following this guys work for a while now. He is an amazing artist. He is one of the artists who is working through Novica with National Geographic. Gorgeous jewelry, real gem stones, high quality. I want a few of his pieces but we decided we aren't doing Christmas presents since we had to buy furniture. So I thought some of you might be interested in seeing his work. Prices are incredibly

FWIW, I actually think buying them dinner in their "town" is a bit awkward and certainly unnecessary. To me, one buys a meal for someone who visits them on their turf, partly really to say "I have a great place to share with you". One also might buy a meal for those who are struggling or lesser off, or junior in some way (young relatives, employees, etc). Or, if one were a houseguest and wanted to reciprocate; or if you golfed at their club. In the situation you describe, ostensibly you are going a little out of your way and giving up some resort time to spend with them. And, it is their turf. If anyone should pay for the group, it would be them IMHO. I'd be a bit surprised if they did not. All of this is to say that I think you have no need to do or give anything, even if you expect her to give you a book. (Which is a minor enough gift that it does not require reciprocation). But, if you did want to give something, I would make it small and personal and, unique to your area of the country. If it's small enough, it hardly matters what it is as long as you like it. When a recipient receives a small gift they really can't be burdened by not liking/needing it , etc. And IMHO you live in an area that is unusual and interesting to most; I think something "indigenous" to your area is a perfect. A small bowl or box? Or even a small frame.

We celebrated our 50th last May and I got my husband a Seiko mantle clock. It plays six different songs and they are all so pretty. They had several clocks to chose from and each clock had different songs. We have had so many compliments on the clock and the beautiful music. My husband was so pleased and that is saying a lot as he usually doesn't pay much attention to such things. I had a plate engraved and put on the front of it. Felt like it was a real hit. The cost was around $300. Bought it at a jewelry store, but you might google and find one on line. By the way, it doesn't have to be a mantle clock, but that is where we put it. Congratulations! I've only just stumbled on this thread, so I hope you don't mind me contributing! I'm very much into Craft Fayres and all things hand crafted and have built up a collection of about 7-8 earring "mushrooms" which stand about 3-4" high and have a series of holes in the cap of the mushroom for either dangly earrings or even studs. Sort of like this http://www.cole-woodturners.co.uk/images/earring_stand_-_takes_12_pairs_271108-1.jpg I've seen some that are flatter and have a second tier above. For bracelets I have another wooden stand with 3 legs/spokes on top of a central pillar and the bracelets just dangle. Necklace stands are about 10-11" high and similarly have either mini hooks for hanging chains/necklaces or the other one has little slots which is better suited to beaded/leather necklaces. Until I began writing this post, I was going to say my biggest problem was storing the "cuff" type bracelets, which just twizzle and fall off the bracelet tree, but a search on Google Images has given me a WHOOOLLLLEEEE load of other avenues and ideas to follow up! I was hoping I'd be able to attach a picture of my dressing table with my variety of trees, but I cant work out how...!

LOL, I thought my brilliant idea — giving my son’s GF a nice overnight bag for graduation — was so unique and creative! Not so much, I guess! For her it’s extra appropriate since they will be living pretty far from each other for at least a couple of years. They’ve been seeing each other for 6+ years (since 11th grade), and for the duration of college have been about 6 hours apart and now will be even further from each other. Anyway, I got her a nice Kipling weekender bag. DS confirmed that she doesn’t have anything like it and that she would love it. My first thought was jewelry too but she doesn’t wear much, and the few small items she does wear are from DS. We have a few high school graduations coming up, too. For those I got Dr Seuss “oh, the places you’ll go” covered Tervis tumblers and inside the tumblers I’m putting gift cards to their respective college bookstores.

He does very nice design work in silver. There are a couple of his men's rings I like very much with one caution. I do not know the hardness of the silver alloys he is using. It looks to be high percent silver. Silver is very soft and the fine, intricate details of his rings would soon wear badly if a man wore the rings at all times. A nice ring like the ones he makes should be removed for work-a-day activities. His stone selections go well with silver but are not exceptional hard. Many of the stones were quartz based (amethyst, citrine) or topaz. Topaz is a little harder than quartz, but will still scratch during everyday use. There are better stone selections, but the prices would be very much more. These softer stones are fine for pendants, necklaces, and ear-rings.

His work is beautiful and so intricate and the prices for his items are very reasonable. I'm actually eyeing that elephant band as I collect elephant jewelry. Thanks for the link, Raven!

I am not a real jewelry follower so I looked just out of curiosity- have to say it's really quite lovely and yes very reasonable (as far as I know jewelry prices:). Thank you for sharing.

I have shopped Novica several times. Always quality products. I love his Fleur-de-lis silver band ring. And some Fleur-de-lis earrings. I collect Fleur-de-lis as you probably know lol. I have them all over the house.
