Need help choosing range hood and where to end glass back splash
Comments (8)It looks like the Imperial 42" is the favorite. It is funny that most of my "inspiration" pictures have a similarly shaped hood, since I saved those images in my "backsplash" folder to try to help my choose the BS height (i.e., I didn't intentionally choose those pictures for the hood). The voting for BS height is mixed, with the majority so far choosing the 8' height. The image above with the tall gray glass BS is from the Smallbones catalog -- I love that look -- makes me wish I could have gone "topless." I think I prefer the taller glass BS, but I'm not sure how to overcome the technical difficulties with the chinmey extending beyond the glass. The glass and wall above will be painted the same color so the line will not be a strong contrast like most of the images above, although the shine factor will obviously be very different....See MoreBacksplash SS to hood or ceiling? Comments (12)mdwstgrl - the compliment is returned - your kitchen is beautiful and the travertine equisite. I'm sure foodonastump (what a fun name) will enjoy the pic too since tile to the ceiling is preferred. Although lovely to look at, we do not want to do tile ... so I'd say we are not married to stainless steel but we are definitely divorced from tile. kwilson50 thanks for sharing your experience with quickshipmetals.com Re the kitchen... I have to say a huge thanks to mpagmom and kitchenaddict. The design and window are derived directly from mpagmom's posts of pictures and details, except that the cabinets are peppercorn cherry like kitchenaddicts....See MoreTile backsplash first or mount chimney style vent hood first
Comments (25)I'm getting ready to install the backsplash tile and it will be going up first then the rangehood and chimney. My reasoning, my sister remodeled and her GC installed her hood and then tile was applied up to the ceiling in a herringbone pattern, 2 months later the hood malfunctioned and research showed a defect in the electronics. The new hood that was selected didn't match the tile layout outline and the tile had to be taken down to just above the range, her nightmare continued when she learned the marble tile had been discontinued. I figure its easier to chip out the tiles containing the anchor mounting hardware and replace them, than a whole wall of marble tile. Having done many kitchen tile jobs if the wall is flat, the tile will be flat....See MoreKitchen backsplash height, existing 4" backsplash, and ending dilemma
Comments (9)I have a similar question five years later: Is the 4" matching back splash now out of style? And how long will it stay out of style? Doubt that it would be possible to get a full matching back splash 14 years after the home was built. I am considering removing the 4" back splash and going with a complementary tile or, perhaps, a colorful wallpaper. Thoughts as to how long the short back spash will stay out of style? (I'm old enough to remember bell bottoms - the first time they were in style.)...See Moreeld6161
