Press tin style backsplash wall cover
Comments (7)About 2 years ago I bought tin ceiling panels and put them up as a backsplash in my kitchen. I was looking for something durable but inexpensive. I really like it b/c it cleans up nice and was easy to install. I chose a white gloss factory finish in a smaller pattern and put it up with construction adhesive. I think I got mine from American Tin Ceilings Co. or MBoss. Both websites have pictures of the panels used as backsplash. My panels came shipped flat in a box by UPS in about 5 days. It helped my old farmhouse kitchen along alot and I put it up and trimmed around it in one day. I did choose to get a very thin wood moulding to finish up the edges because of some outside edge issues due to my layout. I painted the moulding first then put it up and touched up the nail holes. Most of the companies sell paint than matches their factory finish also. I'll attach a picture or email one to you if you'd like. The only thing a little hard about it was cutting the sheets to size where a whole sheet didn't fit. It was a little hard on my hands and the tin snips have to be very sharp! I understand you can have it cut to size at a metal shop with a brake?(I think that's what it's called- either that or a sheer)....See Morebacksplash up to ceiling behind hood: too limiting?
Comments (25)I love your hood. I too went with a very modern sleek hood. BTW, you tile first and then install the hood, not the other way around. I did a full granite backsplash up to the ceiling behind my stove and hood. I did the modern glass hood so I could see my granite behind it. Originally, I wanted a pyramid shaped hood but am so glad I changed my mind. You might want to see if you would like a piece of your soapstone behind the hood as an accent or focal point. That said, the tiles from Oceanside, Artistic Tile, Ann Sacks, etc. would be beautiful in your kitchen. My boyfriend just did the Oceanside tile in the Geologie series in the 1" by 2" joint installed vertically in his kitchen. He has Volga Blue granite and the Black Hills tile is gorgeous with it. It is a combo of slate and glass tiles. Let me see if I have a picture of it. The colors may be wrong for you but you can get an idea of the type of tile it is. Well, I have two different pictures. One of the tile and one of the offset tile (different colors but you can get the general idea) off set tile Black Hills Tile Now, when all is said and done. Check out Mission West tile. Gorgeous stuff in there. Can you post a picture of your cabs and soapstone. It would help in suggesting a tile for you if that is what you wish to go with in the end. Comments (5)I'm having trouble picturing the supports. Is this something that comes with the hood and is meant to mount on the wall, then the hood mounts to the supports? Because 3/4" seems like a lot of space for even a backsplash to cover. Or is this just the blocking (plywood, usually) necessary to hang it safely? If it's just the lumber blocking needed to hang it securely, that should all be done behind the wall, in the framing of the wall. If this is something that has to go in front of the wall, perhaps you can have a carpenter craft a small "frame" around the back of the hood to hide the supports. You could paint it the color of the wall and it should fade away. Can you attach a picture or a link to the hood and it's schematics?...See MoreRange Hood first or wall cabinets first?
Comments (10)Patricia, I'm guessing that was for me? Perimeter splash with something different behind the range/hood? Interestingly, the large Tuscan style kitchen was our last kitchen (Pre-Floods 1 & 2 : ). Although this is going to be a very different style, DH is really pumped up about the two choices, although we haven't purchased yet, so I would be very open to your (and others) input. Our info: Wall color: Sherwin Williams Crushed Ice. The rendering on my monitor makes it appear warmer than it is in our well-lit kitchen. There is is almost completely neutral, in the adjoining room it comes off more grey. Cabinets will be shaker and white ~ a rather 'white' white (I do not have a name as it is being done by our cabinet maker and they call it 'Chandler White). That shade looked better with our light, paint, floor, and counter material than the 'less white' option. Our floors are American Stone & Tile Ranch Wood in "warm brown" (which is also NOT a 'warm brown' but a nice balance of grey tones with not-warm wood tones. Counter tops will be White Macaubus Quartzite. The selection for behind the hood/range is also a quartzite but rough and stacked. It is called Ostrich Gray Ledger. This is the best option I have for posting a pic right now, and it doesn't really capture the texture & nuanced grays: OstrichGrayLedger The back splash around the perimeter picks up the veining in the quartzite: Dunes Platinum Wave 3x12 Glass: DunesPlatinumWave....See Morenhbaskets
