Comments (15)Michelle - I feel your pain. I think I lost a total of 15 registered cultivars, mostly newer cultivars. I've been through it several times before, so it doesn't surprise me. I'm sure many of our member have had losses this year. Those of you who've been around for a few years will remember about three years ago when some of our Southern members lost hundreds grown in pots. It's much harder on those new to daylilies, who don't have that many. What bothers me more than the registered ones, is the 150 seedlings I lost. I had put a lot of planning, time and effort into those and it will take years to replace them. But people, this pity party for me must stop. REALLY! I've felt the love and appreciation and am most grateful. Plant growers of any kind have got to roll with punches Mother Nature throws us and move on. Comments (10)I wouldn't begin to freeze a quiche. It's an egg custard and I would be afraid it would get watery....and even if you added flour, I would be afraid the crust would be soggy. I would make the crust ahead and portion it into one pie size balls and refigerate for up to 3 days....and the night before chop the veggies and garte the cheese and fry and crumble the bacon....and morning of...just roll out the crust, mix up the eggs and milk and cream, dump in the fillings and the egg mix and bake. When I have had to have quiche ready by 7:30, I have even parbaked the crusts the night before and filled and baked the quiche in the morning. I don't think you will be very happy with freezing quiche for a party. Linda C...See MoreIf You Draw Names for Chritsmas...How Far Ahead
Comments (8)The extended family get-together would do a name draw at Thanksgiving. I really didn't like all the obligatory gift giving and decided to opt-out from it. I give gifts to people whom I wish to give and people that want to give something to me will also. Generally I've discouraged it. I've started giving gifts during the year when I see something that I know someone needs or wants and it would make a nice gift, especially when on sale or clearance, I get it for them. I also like to take people out to eat or something like that as a "WTH" gift or make some baked goods. It's far more personal and more appreciated than the obligatory trinkets that sit on a shelf, are re-gifted, garage saled or thrown away....See MoreCan you suggest make-ahead party foods for me?
Comments (30)These are OH-SO-GOOD! I have made these dozens of times and everyone loves them: Tortilla rollups These tortilla roll-ups are very popular, especially for holiday entertaining. Serve with salsa, Ranch dressing, sour cream, guacamole, or use your own favorite dip ideas. Ingredients: â¢5 large flour tortillas â¢1 bunch green onions, chopped â¢4 ounces chopped green chiles, drained â¢8 ounces cream cheese, softened â¢8 ounces sour cream â¢1/2 pound Cheddar cheese, shredded â¢salt and pepper to taste â¢salsa, sour cream, guacamole, or your favorite dip ideas. Preparation: Have tortillas at room temperature. Place the remaining ingredients in a bowl mix with an electric mixer on low until well combined. Spread mixture thinly and evenly over tortillas to within 1/8-inch of edge. Roll up jelly-roll fashion and wrap each tortilla in plastic wrap. Refrigerate overnight. When ready to serve, slice in 3/4 inch rounds and arrange on serving plate. Serve plain or with salsa. Note: tortillas will dry out if cut too far in advance. Serve with your favorite salsa or a few different dips, Ranch dressing, guacamole, sour cream, your choice. Makes about 60 appetizers. NOTES : These are good with crab meat or most any other meat, too!...See Moreplllog
